Why Dogs Are The Best Things Ever

"Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really." -- Agnes Sligh Turnbull

1. You’re never lonely.

Sure, your friends bailed on you on a Saturday. You know who will never bail on you? Your dog, Netflix and that sixth scoop of delicious Blue Bell ice cream. Listeria be damned.

2. The naming possibilities are endless.

Do you remember that cool nickname you wanted to call a friend, but it never caught on because nobody else liked it? That doesn’t matter with dogs! You can call your dog "Charlie the Unicorn" and they don't care! They will literally answer to anything!

3. They’re always ready to love you.

This is probably the most important. No one loves you more than your dog. My mom may get mad at me sometimes, but you know who still loves me no matter how many times I don't come home at a decent hour? That’s right, my dog.

4. They always want to cuddle you.

Let’s face it, your crush doesn't.

5. They're always excited to see you.

It doesn’t matter if you literally left to just go take out the trash. Five minutes is forever to them, and they will greet you as if they haven’t seen you all day.

6. Puppy dog eyes never go away.

Sure, they went to the bathroom on the carpet after you took them out 15 minutes ago, but just look at those eyes!

7. They help you make friends.

If you don’t believe me, just walk your dog around campus or a park. Prepare yourself for a chorus of, “Awwwwww!”

8. They cheer you up.

There’s a reason they are called “Man’s best friend.” I know my dog literally will not let anyone cry around her. Those salty tears are her favorite. (I only know because of friends. I’m a man. I don’t cry.)

9. They'll never fail to entertain you.

We really don't deserve these creatures.

10. They're not cats.

Enough said.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
