Seeing a puppy makes anyone just want to pick it up, hold it and pet it for all eternity. In my mind, a dog is always a puppy, no matter how old, but my dog will always be my best friend. My dog has influenced my life so much that I like to think of him as my human best friend. Therefore, I listed off my top nine reasons why I think dogs are the best of the best.
1. Emotional attachment
Dogs have been reported to know when anyone is experiencing any emotional or physical ailments. Service dogs are a great example for this; people with physical or mental illnesses use service dogs to help them get through everyday life, and the dependence on these dogs helps the owner form an emotional attachment that lasts for the rest of their lives. Another great example of how dogs know when someone is upset would be when my dog comes and rests his head on my lap when he knows I’m upset. At least, I like to think he knows when I’m upset.
2. Knowing when it's cuddle time
It seems to me that every time all I wanted to do was to have someone there beside me, my dog was always there to keep me company. I like to believe dogs just have intuition and know when you need someone there, because that’s better than thinking they’re just lying next to me because they’re lazy and like my warmth.
3. Always having a game buddy
What dog isn’t always up for a good game of fetch or hide and go seek? By getting a dog, you’ll always have something to do, even if you really don’t want to do anything. When he wants to play, my dog always drops hints, such as nibbling my hand, or he’ll run up to my and headbutt me to get my attention.
4. Garbage disposal
Dogs are always there at your disposal, even if it’s just to eat your scraps. They really do care about their human, but food is just so important. You could spill a whole bag of cheese cubes and it is just part of their duty as a dog to eat all the spilled food. There’s always that scene in movies where the child feeds their nasty veggies to their dog, and you can see how excited the dog gets to eat some Brussels sprouts.
5. Comedian
Since dogs can sense your emotions, it is interesting to think how they would cheer you up by just being themselves. My dog in particular has certain quirks that he does that always just make my family laugh. Dogs are just amusing creatures and pure forms of entertainment.
6. Transportation
A dog is especially important for certain aspects of travel. I prefer to use my dog as a pull for my longboard so I don’t have to work as hard. They also are there to keep you company so you aren’t lonely while riding your board either. In addition, riding big dogs while you’re a child is the best form of transportation anybody could ever ask for, and it’s a shame you can’t ride big dogs as an adult.
7. Can't eat your chocolate
As most people know dogs are allergic to chocolate; therefore, they can’t eat your chocolate, despite their best efforts. This means you don’t have to share when you’re down in the dumps and cuddling with your furry friend, which is the best part about hanging out with dogs when upset.
8. Force you to go outside
Without my dog, I would most likely be inside all the time, but since I have to take him out every now and then, I am required to go outdoors. This works for both of us, because I am extremely pale, so I have to go in the sun before I quite literally become as white as snow.
9. Motherly instinct
Having a dog as a pet makes you get a sense of ownership, which is very important in developing responsibility. Taking care of a dog is a daily thing, and not a once-in-a-while kind of care, like a hamster, so it requires daily responsibility. It also allows a child to give their motherly instincts to pamper and care for their pet. This is a good way to learn responsibility because .
To conclude, dogs are everyone’s best friends, but especially this woman’s best friend. As you can see, having a dog is just the best option anyone can do.
