Let's face it. We are living in a time where the (supposedly) controversial is working to become the conventional. We are living in a period of sociopolitical turmoil. We are living in an atmosphere where the turbulence is only beginning. Because the real issues that are plaguing America and have been for so long, have yet to come to a resolution.

There's an even greater divide within the American government than ever before, for instance. Much of this country has chosen Donald Trump as a (potential) presidential candidate and support his ridiculous slander. That's concerning enough. However, his campaign has exposed disdain that is executed via discrimination against many that are considered minorities. Since this has been brought to light, it is way past time we all learn and endure, if not embrace, that the United States of America is a melting pot. This nation has flourished because of the contributions of immigrants from several walks of life. But now, he wishes to build a wall to exclude Mexicans and ban the immigration of all Muslims into the country.

Furthermore, recently we have witnessed, and some have experienced, the worst tragedy yet: the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting, which was perpetrated by Omar Mateen who was claimed to be affiliated with ISIS. This event was not only a hate crime against the LGBT community but also a terror act that ignited responses from Washington D.C.

Trump utilized this tragedy as a means to put blame on President Obama as well as alienate and disparage Muslims. Trump argued that this recent act of terror justified his proposed ban on all Muslims entering America. He even accused Obama of not using the phrase "radical Islam." Nevertheless, Obama responded by saying, “What exactly would using this label accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make ISIL less committed to try to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this? ... The answer is none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away.” In the words of Obama, continual incitement of Muslims would ultimately mean we would be attacking a whole religion, thus, we would be no better than the terrorists as we would be doing the dirty work for them.

The action(s) of one person claiming to be of a certain group should not define the characteristic of the group as a whole. Muslims as a whole and Islam should not be demonized for the atrocious actions of a demented criminal.

Consequently, national security fall into question and concern for many as the presidential campaign continues. We are not only facing terrorism abroad but terrorism right at our doorstep, domestically. This also initiates the debate of gun control. Gun violence has certainly taken its toll on America. Look at the facts, look at the statistics. We've had more shootings these past couple years than almost any other country.

From movie theaters, schools, churches and to nightclubs, are we all ever really safe and free? Wake up. We have a gun problem. We need more gun control and regulation.

Moreover, this was an attack on the LGBT community. Haven't we just issued the legalization of gay marriage? Moreover, there's a whole debate on using particular bathrooms for transgender people.

Overall, we are facing not only political adversaries but domestic, racial and social ones as well. We are gonna have to make the right changes and soon before things get any worse.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
