Most people believe that without education one cannot succeed in life; however, for a person to thrive, the most important quality is determination. The concept of being well-educated is relative. Some people believe that if a person does not attend school then that person did not receive a formal education and therefore will not be fully prepared in life and will never be able to build a career path. On the other hand, others simply believe that the most important base of education is the values a parent inflicts at home on his or her child.

Education is an expensive privilege and unfortunately not many people can afford it. When a child is born, their parents start to save money in order to be able to provide the best education for their child. Others simply concentrate on building a stable home in order to survive. In this generation, education can be provided through many different ways such as homeschooling and online courses but some people just don’t believe in the common idea that a person needs to go to school.

All throughout history, people from the lower class, such as slaves have managed to break away from society’s barriers in order to find any method for education. Fredrick Douglass, the first black American to rise prominence as a national figure, is a perfect example of a person born into slavery who achieved his ambition of learning to read and write. As a slave, Douglass was ejected from education and at the time, the thought of a black person receiving education was outrageous and unacceptable. However, Douglass was a person who didn’t take no for an answer. Fredrick Douglass did not attend an institution where he was taught to read and write, but he created his own personal institution by his extreme willpower to erase his slave label and become someone of great influence.

It is society’s expectation that a person who graduates high school needs to go to college; however, many successful people never graduated college and instead decided to follow their dreams. A perfect example of this situation is apple creator Steve Jobs, who dropped out of Reed College due to the fact that his parents couldn’t afford his education. As we all know, that didn’t stop him from building an empire that is now worth around $100 million. Not bad for someone who dropped out of college huh?

Being well-educated does not guarantee an efficacious career-path. Yes, having a normal education will help you on the way to building a career-path but it will not assure you success. Education is a privilege not a right and people who are not fortunate enough to afford an education can manage to find a way for success. Someone who is willing to flourish will always find a way to build something powerful. The key is to believe that no matter what obstacle you may face there is always a way to get better. Education can be seen as the road to success or for some people, as a burden to carry. If receiving an education ends up being an obstacle for someone, then that person who develops a driven and determined absolutely find other ways to thrive.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
