When people ask me who I am, I can never find the words to explain because I’m not sure of the person that I am, or the person that I want to become. When you hear people say who they are, for example celebrities, it’s easier for them to know who they are because they have done something with their life. They are actors, musicians, fashion designers, etc. They know who they are and who they’ve become. Maybe we are too young to know exactly who we are, but when will we find out who we are? When will we be able to answer that question? As of right now when people ask me who I am I say I am a student studying journalism. But does that define who I am?
For those who don’t know who you are, how are you planning to find yourself? Does it just come to you? Do you have to face a difficult situation in life to know who you are? Is it necessary for there to be a tragedy?
As I get older and think more and more about my future I think of what I want my life to look like. I want to be a successful journalist, a mother and a wife. People that already have that sometimes define themselves as that. But is that really who you are, does that truly define you? Everyone has a different definition when it comes to who you are. It might be a question that can’t necessarily be answered.
It’s good to keep this question in mind when figuring out who you want to be and who to revolve yourself around. The people that you surround yourself with have a large impact in the person that you become. So keeping in mind who you want to become can help when deciding on the people you want to be around.
Some people define who you are by the way you act, some may say you are defined as loving, kind, intelligent, pretty, etc. You may be labeled by the clothes you wear, by the music you listen to, by the color of your skin, gender, religion and sexual orientation, but none of those labels define who you are.
You may not necessarily know who you are yet, or maybe you do. But don’t let others choose or define who you are. Who you are is who you believe you are inside. Finding that person is a journey that we all take, and that some of us are still taking right now.
