Lately, I feel like everyone around me, including myself, feels stuck in the sense that we want to be somewhere other than where we are right now. Education is important and a crucial foundation for success, but at the moment I wish I could take a pause and do the things I want to for a while and later return to studying for exams and worrying about my grades. I want to go. I want to travel the world, see new places, meet new people, and have experiences that I’ll never forget. And right now being a second semester sophomore in college, I feel like I’ve been doing this whole school for thing for a little too long.
I’ve been questioning what I want to do lately, as I am almost halfway through college and it’s becoming reality that in just two years I’ll be graduating and entering the real world. I’ll have a career and have to do similar things to what my parents are doing right now; it’s a little intimidating. I still don’t know what I want to do career-wise, but I think that’s alright, for now. Pretty soon I’ll have to decide but for now, there’s one thing I want to do.
There’s always that one thing that everyone wants to do. Whether it’s to travel, meet their role model celebrity, bungee jump off of the tallest bridge, be on live TV or merely to talk to someone they’ve seen around. Whether the thing is small or big, we all only live once and given the opportunity, we have to be brave and take risks. We can’t ever live with regret because regret is the worst feeling. Recently I talked to someone who said that their one piece of advice they would give to a graduating college student would be to take the summer off before jumping into a job. She said she jumped into the real world too quickly and wished she could’ve taken a break, relaxed and done something for herself.
If you don’t like what you’re doing, what’s the point of doing it? Everyone isn’t made to do the same thing; if you want to live your life a little differently, do it. We’re not given enough time in life to regret or say what if. You’re living your life for you and nobody else, so if there’s something out there you want to do, if there’s some place out there you want to go, go for it.
