Do What You Love

Do What You Love

Beginning at a young age, I was always thinking about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Some of these careers included a professional athlete, a veterinarian, a book editor and - my personal favorite - a marine biologist (even though I’m scared of fish).

Many things were influencing my future career choice as I grew up. I wanted to choose a career that my parents were proud of; I wanted to choose a career that was interesting; and of course, I wanted a career that would make me a lot of money.

Ultimately, I decided that I wanted to be a journalist, and I've never been happier with my choice. Recently I've fallen more and more in love with my career path and have seen all the great opportunities for journalism majors here at Ohio State. To me, journalism isn't a job. When I go out and cover various things for my classes, I find myself enjoying it and loving every second that I get to be Bree Williams, journalist.

In a society dominated by money, I was nervous about making enough money to live the glamorous life that I envisioned myself having. Now I realize it’s not about the money you make or the fame you gain, it’s about being passionate about what you do. Who cares if you’re not making six figures when you’re head over heels in love with your job?

Don’t pick a career choice solely on the amount of money you will make. Although it would be fun to be a millionaire, I would rather be happy with what I do for a living than hating every second of it. Who knows? You may be one of the lucky ones whose passion does make six figures. Do what you love and the money will follow.

Find what you’re good at and go out there and do it. Whether you dream of teaching kindergarten or becoming the president of the United States, don’t let anyone or anything hold you back. There’s no dream too big or too small, and it’s never too late to dream a new dream. Life’s too short to be stuck in some dead end job that you dread going to every day. As Marc Anthony said, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

Never working a day in your life is the dream, isn't it? To put it simply, decide what to be and go be it; it’s never too late to be awesome.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
