One of the most stressful parts of college is the four-year plan. When does this class need to be taken? Which semester should I take it in? The list goes on. I needed two core classes done before the next spring semester, which led me to taking them both online this summer.
Waking up early enough and getting enough sleep in order to do the work is difficult. Usually during the summer I stay up late, and then wake up late as well. There isn't enough time to do so anymore with all of the assignments to work on. Without the right amount of sleep, working on anything becomes much more difficult.
Managing time is hard, just like during a normal semester. I have been trying to find a job, get good grades in both classes and have time to relax and read one of the many books on my list. It has been stressful transitioning from a semester full of work into a summer with the same amount for the first time.
There's not enough free time as there should be. If I didn't want these core classes done, there would be more time for me to look for jobs. Not only that, but there would also be more time to write and read, my two loves. I barely had time for writing during the past two semesters and still do now. Just an hour or two isn't enough for me to actually enjoy it — I crave longer.
The benefit to taking these classes is in the fall and spring I'll only have two more core classes. Everything else will be toward my major, which makes me very excited. I might also start taking six classes a semester instead of five, since I declared a minor last semester. Getting core classes out of the way now will help me. It just sucks not being able to have as much of a fun summertime as I'd like to.
Even though my summer has already been tainted by the classes and their condensed schedules, making for tons of work each week, I know I can find the motivation to make it through, since I like to keep busy and my schedule for fall looks amazing. I'm still going to make the best out of my academic summer. Back to reading and writing I go.
