"What's your major?"
"Early Childhood Education!"
"Really? You're not going to make any money in that field..."
My future, my choice
After high school, you have the God given right to do with your life what you will. That is whether you go to college, join the military, begin working immediately, etc., it is all up to you. Some people may not agree with your choice, but at the end of the day, that choice is yours and it's what you feel suits you best at that time in your life. You are going to get asked, "What's your major?", or, "What are your future plans?" a million times, and while you will get positive responses, others may have some negative commentary to make. Why though?
I am pursuing what makes ME happy
Keyword : pursuing. I am in college, I am receiving a higher education, I am productive, and boy do I big plans! Since when was that a bad thing? Do I have to be a doctor or an engineer to be successful, happy, and well off in life? If so, I definitely didn't get the memo. If I were aimlessly cruising through life with my head off of my shoulders, then some guidance from others would certainly be appropriate, but as for right now, I am extremely content with the outlook of my future.
Stop making it all about the money
I can't even being to tell you how many times I have gotten the, "You aren't going to make a lot of money doing that," lecture after telling people that I am going to be a teacher in the future. Does any teacher choose to pursue that career "for" the money? Or do they do it because they are passionate about helping others be successful in life? Personally, I chose it for the second reason. What about artists? Do artists neglect their outrageous talents because they won't "make money?" Do authors fight the urge to publish their writing because it could potentially but their bank account at risk? No way! Think of a world without teachers, artists, writers, and every other career that people proclaim to be bad choices because they won't find work in that field or it won't make them beaucoup bucks. If you are capable of positively inspiring others, you are richer than any other person on this planet.
What a career is really about
Of course money is a priority being that it supports your overall being, but at the end of the day, a career is so much more than what it puts into your wallet. Your career defines who you are as a person and how you are willing to give back to your society. It is a blessing to have so many diverse careers that suit the billions of different people that populate this earth, giving everyone an opportunity to do what they love while contributing to others. You would never want to be stuck doing something that you didn't love for the rest of your life, even if it meant getting a bigger paycheck. Spending your life in the position that makes you the happiest will pay off the most in the long run, guaranteed.
