We all like to do a little good in this world, from time to time, but on a college student budget it’s hard to find ways to give you’re money to a charity while maintaining your current shopping addiction. These are just a few of many companies that do an awesome job of giving to charities while fueling your addiction!
Love Your Melon
Who doesn’t want (need) an adorable beanie to wear around campus during those frigid snowstorms? Love Your Melon, which was started by college students, launched its original buy one, give one program, which gave a hat to every child battling cancer in the United States. They have actually already reserved over 45,000 hats to donate to the children, which is the same number of children currently battling cancer in America! Love Your Melon continues to make an impact by partnering with other Foundations. Now, 50 percent of each purchase goes towards the Pinky Swear Foundation.
Pura Vida
This company is “Making Strings Happen”, by donating over $592,638.50 to different charities. Their website is easy to navigate with a “Charity” tab clear at the top of the homepage. There are hundreds of bracelets that with each purchase, a portion of the proceeds goes to that charity. Pura Vida openly states on their page for each item exactly how much of purchase will go to the charity. There are so many choices, I’m sure everyone can find a bracelet that supports a charity close to their heart.
Alex and Ani
Ever see those girls with seven plus bangles around their wrist that makes it really hard for you to concentrate during your calc exam because of how much sound the bracelets make when they hit each other? I’m definitely one of those girls. Alex and Ani bracelets are beyond cute and fashionable. Their Charity by Design collection is a great way to give to a charity while maintaining your shopping addiction. This collection ranges from $28-$38, with 20 percent of the purchase price going to the charity the bracelet supports.
Yoobi
Who doesn’t love new school supplies? Their name means “one for you, one for me”, meaning that for every purchase, an item will be given to a classroom in need in America. There is such a large assortment of products, from backpacks and pencil sharpeners, to headphones and lanyards. Not to mention every product is made in bright colors and patterns, to keep a little fun in the classroom.
SOLO Eyewear
I know I’m not the only one who is constantly losing or breaking my sunglasses. SOLO Eyewear sells super stylish, eco-friendly shades. Each pair purchased funds eye care for people in need. Their “About” page shares the awesome story about how the idea was developed- in a classroom! That’s right, an awesome company founded by college students making a huge impact in the world. Check out my personal favorite and next on my shopping list; the “Kenya” design.
Skyline Socks
What’s one clothing item you never give to Goodwill or Salvation Army when you donate your used clothes? Socks. Chances are you don’t donate these because they are worn out from overuse. That’s the point Skyline Socks is trying to make. Socks are a necessity that unfortunately not everyone can afford to have. Every pair of Skyline Socks sold means that a pair is donated. These socks are made with the skyline of a big city on them, so if you purchase the Chicago pair, the pair being donated will go to someone in need in Chicago
BOGO Bowl
The way to my heart is animals: pictures of animals, movies about animals, and especially charities that benefit animals. BOGO Bowl sells premium pet food, and with every bag you buy, they give a bag to an animal in need. I realize not all of us shopping addicts have a pet, but it never hurts to buy one and give it to the local humane society because that means an additional bag will be donated, as well!
Interested in being a campus ambassador for one of these companies? Want to buy a cute beanie or bracelet? Need some new school supplies? Just want to be a good person?
