I think we all know the feeling of a messy room with nowhere to put your mounds of books, clothes, and past school supplies from three semesters ago. Here are six organizational tips to improve your life and get the clutter out of the way. In my room, I have a bed/dresser/closet/attached bathroom, but I also have a large crate for my dog, and you know, my dog. Needless to say, organization for me is key.
These are all DIYs that I've used that have greatly improved my sanity, and has decreased the clutter in my room substantially. Can anyone say winter project?
1. Use Corner Shelves
Corner shelves are a cute way to put your candles, canvases, and other gifts you've accumulated from your Big/Little/Twin/Family or anyone else over the years. You can learn how to DIY your own here, or I bought mine from Ikea, that you can find here.
2. Install A Shelf Next To Your Bed
I bought mine from Ikea (yeah, I buy a lot of furniture there, so what) and I have a canvas, a candle, Chapstick, an outlet where I have my phone and computer chargers plugged in, and most of the time I have a couple nail polishes or whatever else I need right next to my bed. It has come in handy so many times, and honestly I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it before!
3. Two Words: Spice Racks
I have two of these bad boys in my bathroom and it has seriously improved the clutter! I put my nail polish, face wash, hair ties, and literally anything else that's small and easily lost in these shelves. And here's a perk—if you buy them at Ikea (duh), you can get spice jars that fit into the rack and fill them with hair ties, bobby pins, Q-Tips, nail clippers, eyebrow pluckers (is that what they're called?), and other small accessories so you don't lose them.
4. Invest In A Makeup Organizer
Every month, I get five samples of beauty products and if you're anything like me, you don't use half of them, but don't throw them away because of reasons. Thus, creating a huge, clutter-filled vanity. I recently started watching YouTube makeup tutorials, and that alone has increased my makeup stash. Plus whenever I step into a store with makeup I inevitably leave with new mascara or a new brush. You can either use a larger makeup organizer like the one above, or if you're like me, and have a small amount of counter space, you can get one at Target that doesn't take up as much space. It doesn't look like it fits a lot, but I fit my whole makeup collection in the three compartments.
5. Keep What You Need Organized And Easily Accessible
I don't have a desk in my room, so everything from school, work, and basically anything else ends up on my dresser. This fall, I decided to be proactive and buy a couple desk organizers and I also bought a few stackable trays. For the organizers, I put my medication, sunglasses that I don't use, pens/pencils, little candies like Jolly Ranchers, and it's also where I put my bracelets and rings before I go to bed. Basically, the possibilities are endless with those organizers. As for the stackable trays, I use one of them for my class binders and switch them out every day for the ones I need, and the other one, I use for the binders of my various student organizations and class books. It's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself in terms of keeping myself sane and organized this semester.
6. Utilize Your Wall Space
Above my dresser, I have a cork board, and above that, a string with bird clips on it. I put important papers on the corkboard along with birthday cards from friends, notes from my Big, and other sentimental ticket stubs, name tags, and pins. For example, I pinned our fall recruitment dates/outfits on the board so I wouldn't forget. Having some type of board on your wall is super useful in order to keep papers off your desk/dresser and to keep the clutter at bay. I clip cute pictures to the string above it, just because it puts a smile on my face when I'm feeling stressed out.
