This article, I'm sure will get some heat and it will be a pretty long one but that is OK ... This is my opinion and my opinion only. If you don't like what I have to say then sorry not sorry!
To me, ALL LIVES MATTER!!! It shouldn't matter what color your skin is, what religion you are, what gender, sexual orientation, what tax bracket or profession you are in, humans, turtles, lions or bears ... "ALL LIVES MATTER." WE SHOULD ALL BE UNITED. Unless you are Native American, we all have immigrant ancestry from somewhere and that is what makes America "the melting pot," and a great pot at that. I have been blessed with an amazing cultural background. My dad is English as in from England (the land of kings, queens, tea and crumpets) and my mom is Colombian from South America (land of color, life and coffee). My parents both moved from their countries to United States to find a new path and new dreams. My brother and I are first generation Americans and I am proud to be American! Why you ask...? because not only was I born here but I believe in my country! I believe in the people, I believe in our soldiers! I believe in our nation! I believe in our history and our future! I believe America has potential to be amazing, if only we all stood together ... united! Sure we have flaws, we have good people and corrupt people, sure we mess up but that is just life, we cannot run or hide from it. We have a voice and it is up to us 'the people' to come together "UNITED" for the benefit of all.
When everyone separates themselves there cannot be unity. No unity leads to broken ... broken lives, broken everything. If we are broken from the inside how can we ever think to protect ourselves from the outside. Yes, there are good people and yes there are bad people. But if everyone is fighting each other, we cannot grow and unite for the greater good. There are people who say they hate America and desecrate the flag. Well my opinion is that if you hate America so much there are 195 other countries on this planet we call Earth to travel to. If you hate where you are then change where you live. If you hate what you do, then change what you do. Don't bring others down, don't separate others from your gain. We need to be a United States of America more than ever.
Certain professions are high risk jobs and even with training, education and dedication ... adrenaline is flowing and some judgments can be obscured. Unfortunately bad things happen whether intentional or accidental. I'm a nursing student so from my point of view a patient's life is in your hands! Medication errors, procedure errors or any other errors are VERY possible and even fatal. Take for example, A doctor puts in a medication order, that medication order is verified by the doctor who prescribed it, the pharmacist and lastly the nurse. The nurse is the last resort for patient safety and advocacy. If the nurse doesn't do their proper checks to make sure the medication is the RIGHT medication, the RIGHT dosage at the RIGHT time, to the RIGHT patient then bad things can ensue. We all need to be accountable for all our actions, whether good or bad. We need to take responsibility for what we do. We shouldn't blame others for things that we did. And that is key to all of our current problems. Everyone wants to put the blame on someone or some group ... And that is a huge problem we need to fix!
We need to stop trying to break apart, stop fighting one another, and stop separating everyone. We need to stop labels, stop cliques, stop the madness and chaos. Each and everyone of us needs to join together, look deep within, put ALL LIVES first, and foremost, be united!
With all these recent events it really made me think of the song we used to sing in elementary school ... the good old "God Bless America" song by Irving Berlin ...
"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home."
Or what ever happened to Katharine Bates view of America ... We as a nation need to figure ourselves out and be united once more.
"O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!
O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!
O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!"
Long story short, we need to stand for each other, lift each other up, help those who need help, forgive those who need to be forgiven and love those who need to be loved. We need to be united. What a perfect opportunity for other nations to attack us when we can't even stand together as one! We need to stop separating ourselves into different groups and realize that we need to be one people, One love and one nation for all.
