A Distraction From The State Of The World

It's time to take a break from the year's negativity and focus on some paw-sitive things.

With all the negativity in the news lately, I've tried to distract myself from the familiarity of a broken heart over several incidents of death each morning with something that won't toll on my emotional stability. While I'm certainly not advising anyone to be ignorant about social events, I think that at a certain point, you either have to stop crying over spilled milk and make a change. Ignorance, however, is bliss. And for those who haven't figured out how to be active in all the socio-political issues the world is facing, I've found a distraction that can't be negatively influenced in any way- dogs. To be fair, I didn't think of this idea on my own. When trying to think of something to write about this week, I asked my boyfriend what important topic I should try and cover, and his response, simply, was "you should write about dogs." So, here we are. Here are some pictures of dogs that will hopefully distract from your seemingly dismal newsfeed, and hopefully bring light to some shining rays of hope that still remain in our world.

Look at these hot dogs. They don't care who wins the election. They're just happy to be UV protected with their shades and trendy scarves.

A care-free pup listening to, what I assume, is "Up!" by Shania Twain. Things can only go up from here, my friend. Things can only go up.

Soaking up the sun! Not a care in the world for this guy. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the ocean breeze is feelin' great.

This doggo just wants to sleep and doesn't care about Taylor Swift or Kim Kardashian or Kanye West. He's dreaming of a world full of treats and toys and other dogs filled with happiness. He doesn't even know what a Twitter or Snapchat is. He just wants his eight hours.

"Say cheese!" Nothing exists beyond the camera lens for these guys. Except, maybe the guy on the right his thinking about if he left the oven on or not.

These Beagles 2020.The leaders America really needs.

A DOG SELFIE. Why didn't this #BreakTheInternet?

Just takin' a dip. Splishin', splashin', you know how it is. Summer vibes.

Basket buddies! How can anything in the world be wrong when puppies can fit into baskets?

And finally, this dog who is very socially aware, starting petitions on Change.org and stuff. Be like this dog. Pay attention to what's going on around you. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, but you can be the change you wish to see in it. Don't give up hope. Remember to never lose sight of your goals, and when things around you seem to fall apart, remember that we will always have dogs. Man's best friend, no matter how bad the world may seem.

And when you think about it, things could always be worse.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
