Growing up, we all have our favorite Disney movies. Whether we love the story of Cinderella losing her shoe and the prince running around the kingdom to find his princess or Simba taking over his father's kingdom after he's killed in the horrible stampede, there is always a favorite that will stay with us forever.
Watching movies now compared to when I was five, there are some very wise words said by some characters. Here are just a couple of the quotes that really struck me.
1. "Venture outside your comfort zone, the rewards are worth it." - Tangled
Everyone has trouble stepping outside of their comfort zone; that's a given. In the movie Tangled, it is expressed that even if you are scared to do something that you aren't used to doing, the rewards are very worth it in the long run.
2. "Oh, yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or you can learn from it." - The Lion King
This was almost my senior quote due to the fact that it is so deep and is something that has really stuck with me for years. Many people look at their past and it holds them back, then there are people who can really take away what they've learned throughout their lives and it makes a huge impact.
3. "A true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart." - Hercules
Being a hero doesn't always mean being the strongest person in the room, but it can mean that when a person endures a lot of difficulties. It makes their heart stronger which means the person becomes a stronger individual.
4. "If you don't think, then you shouldn't talk." - Alice in Wonderland
I love this quote because it is so relatable to everyone. We all have that friend, or at least know someone, who doesn't think before they speak. This is a given...if you don't think, then you shouldn't talk. Many would say this is common sense, but common sense seems to be something a lot of people lack these days...
5. "Sometimes the right path is not the easiest one." - Pocahontas
Growing up, people would say "take the higher road" and things like that if you got into a fight with a friend or an argument with whomever. Years later when we've grown up, we still struggle with taking the higher road even though it can be the more challenging road there is to take.
6. "The one thing predictable about life is its unpredictability." - Ratatouille
I love this quote because it is something you wouldn't expect it to be said in a kid's movie. It may seem like such a complex statement, definitely wise beyond the years of those the movie is geared towards. Life is very unpredictable and we all know that, this movie tells us there is only one thing we can really count on in life, and that is life's unpredictability.
7. "Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." - Lilo and Stitch
Whether we want to admit it or not, our family is our family. Growing up with strong family values, I have always learned that we never leave family behind, nor do we forget them even if they leave or pass on. Family is something that will always be there for us, and we can never leave them behind.
8. "It's you who'll climb the mountain, it's you who'll reach the peak." - Tarzan
If you want something bad enough in life, then you are the one who really has to work for it, and it is you who will see the rewards at the end. We have some challenges in life and they can be very difficult to overcome. Once you overcome your struggles, you will have a new outlook on life and that will be your peak that you see from.
9. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - The Princess Diaries
Originally said by Eleanor Roosevelt and then by Joe the limo driver, this quote says that there are going to be a lot of people out there who are going to want to bring you down. They can only bring you down if you let them.
10. "If there ever comes a day where we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever." - Winnie the Pooh
We lose people in life, whether its friends moving away, family members passing on, we will always keep them in our hearts. The memories we keep in our hearts will never fade.
