I was raised on Disney movies, so it's safe to say that they helped define my childhood. To this day, Disney movies still hold a special place in my heart, and I am beyond excited that most Disney movies will be added to Netflix in the fall so I can reminisce while at college and enjoy some of my favorite childhood movies again while simultaneously missing my childhood.
The Little Mermaid
Every little girl had their favorite princess, and mine was the Little Mermaid. This movie is all about a teenage girl rebelling against her father's wishes and dreaming of the new life she wants. As a little girl, I loved all the singing and the beautiful colors of the fish and other creatures that the Little Mermaid talks to.
Peter Pan
I loved the idea of getting to play forever and not having to grow up, Oh, and the idea of flying. This movie is the ultimate tale of never wanting to grow up and wanting to remain a kid forever. I feel like, now more than ever, I am relating to Peter Pan because now that I am paying bills and buying groceries at schoo,l I want to be a kid again and never grow up.
101 Dalmatians
As a dog lover, this was one of my favorites. As a kid, I always wanted to rescue all the puppies and I still do. In most Disney movies, there is a bad guy and I loved seeing Cruella Devil taken down because of my great love for all the puppies in the movie.
Monsters, Inc.
The movie to help all little kids overcome their fears of the dark and monsters under the bed. I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it and, as a young girl who was scared of pretty much everything, this film attempted to teach me to not be so scared.
Finding Nemo
This movie was one of my favorites because I found it absolutely hilarious. I still remember multiple lines from this movie and could quote them if you asked me to.
Toy Story
I absolutely loved the idea of my toys coming alive and I think every kid at one point or another pretends that their toys can talk to them. The idea of friendship portrayed in this movie also stuck out to me as a young child and all the songs made me think about my friends and how much I loved them.
Pinocchio
I was a very honest child, and I think I owe a lot of that honesty to Pinocchio. I had a fear that if I ever lied my nose would actually grow just as in the movie. This is definitely a movie that all kids should see because if it worked for me, I'm sure it would instill some honesty in other kids as well.
I highly recommend all these Disney movies and I can guarantee that I will be watching these movies with my nieces, nephews, and my own children someday.
