When you're a child, Disney movies are great. They're entertaining, funny, sing-songy and, for little kids, an adventure. Childhoods are built from great Disney movies. But, later on in life when you're an adult and you re-watch them, not only are they still funny, but their meaning is deeper than you thought when you were eight. Here are five Disney movies that get better as you get older.
1. "Hercules"
So why is this one better when you're older? There is so much humor in this movie that, as a child, you'll never understand. Since it has a Greek background the jokes are based off that. For example, Phil, the Satyr, yells at Hurc and says, "Two words, I am retired!" and Hurc is shown counting on his fingers. In Greek, "I am retired" is two words. One of the main characters is absolutely iconic and that would be Hades. I never thought I'd call the ruler of the underworld hilarious but in this movie he absolutely is and he had to put up with so much that even though he's the bad guy, you gotta sympathize with him. Of course, he's known for blowing up with rage and, when you're in college, you can definitely relate to that moment.
2. "Brother Bear"
"Brother Bear" is a great Disney movies that teaches a lot of lessons. Like you need to put other's needs above your own and learn to walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you judge. A big life lesson that the middle brother, Denahi, learns is revenge is not the answer. Through all these lessons there are large amounts of humor that make this movie better to watch when you're older. Two of the funniest characters are the moose brothers, Tuke and Rutt. One of the funniest scenes is when they're riding the wooly mammoths and playing "I spy," and the only thing to spy are the same trees, along with the beginning when they don't understand what Kenai who is recently a bear, is trying to say.
3. The "Goofy" Movies
A lot of people haven't even seen these movies for some reason but they're great. There are two main ones, "A Goofy Movie" and "An Extremely Goofy Movie." In the first one, Max is still in high school and pulls a huge stunt that gets him in major trouble. There are some priceless quotes from the first one, such as Bobby and his Chedda and leaning tower of Cheesea. Along with the scene where Max is trapped in the car with his dad because the Big Foot is sleeping on the roof. If you've ever shared a room with a sibling, friend or any other loud sleeper you can relate to Max in that situation. In the second movie, Bobby again makes an appearance, becoming self aware as to why they wear gloves all the time. These movies, like any animated movie are hysterical when your older because it only takes one click of the pause button to catch a character in a really funny position. Ah-hyuck!
4. "The Three Musketeers"
This is a great movie that teaches children to never give up and always go after your dreams like Mickey, Goofy and Donald do but when you watch as an adult it's also funny because the majority of the things the characters do are outrageously impossible they're just funny. Pete, the bad guy in the movie, is also funny and his "bad guys!" are comedians without trying to be funny. The songs in this movie are humorous as well because of the lyrics. And Donald's always been short tempered...
5. "The Emperor's New Groove"
This has got to be one of the most underrated Disney movies of all time. Sure, the Emperor is a bit spoiled but he's still funny and so is Pacha and of course Yzma and Kronk. There are so many scenes that, as a kid, we never catch. A great example is when Yzma pours the poison on the plant, the plant turns into a llama—foreshadowing, in a funny way. There are dozens of quotes that you'll be repeating later on in random conversations just because they're so funny. Then there's the breaking of the fourth wall about ten times that's just so unnecessary, it's hysterical. The main character pauses his own movie to point out that he is, in fact, the main character, just in case we weren't sure.
