Things We Discover In College

In college, we discover many things that are necessary for us to excel in life. We find out what we want to do with our lives, or what we think we want to do (whichever one comes first). We find our group of friends that we want to have as our lifelong pals. We discover what we like to do for fun by getting involved in organizations at the university we attend. On top of all of that, we can even go deep and discover who we are as a person. Since these are the typical things you find out while in college, let's go into deep detail on how we can actually achieve these wonderful discoveries.

Let's start with the first level of searching: picking what you want to do in life.

This is also know as choosing your major. This is probably the most difficult decision you will have to face while in college. There are so many things a person can choose nowadays. How do we do it? How do we choose what we want to do in life? Well, you have to know what will make you happy. When I was a freshman, I was all about nursing. I thought it would be the best life choice for me to make. I would have been so good at it...would being the key word. Even though I enjoyed the major for a while, it got difficult and boring to me. I had no choice but to change. We must find out what makes us happy. Why would we do a job where we would have to wake up and feel miserable every day? So choose the right major, even if that means changing it 7 times.

Our second level on our path of discovery: finding the right people to be with.

Let's face it...nobody can do the whole college journey alone. It's too hard, stressful, and negative to endure by yourself. A person must surround themselves with the right group of people. That will come with some trial and error, though. You will have people that will be friends in the beginning but then leave you for other groups by the time you hit your sophomore year. Then you will have other people who will be there from orientation day to graduation. Those are the people who will be with you for life. My advice to you is to surround yourself with positive, loving people. I have been so blessed to have the people I have in my life as my friends. Positive and loving people make the college world much easier and more fun to endure.

So the deepest level we will venture into on finding out what college is all about is: YOU.

Yes, you. When I say that, I mean finding out who you are. Sound scary? Well, it is kind of scary in a way. Not knowing who you are makes it kind of hard to play in the game called life. However, college does help you out. It gives you independence you did not have in high school. That little amount of freedom is just enough to let you venture on your own to find yourself. This also helps to the two topics we just discussed. When you figure out who you are, then you can figure out what you want to do in life. You also figure out your likes and dislikes, which can help you find that perfect group of friends. It will take some time, but once we find out who we are on the inside, we can become successful on the outside.

There you have it. That is your journey of discoveries in college. Sounds easy, right? Well, it's kind of not. It takes time, effort, and struggle to make it in life. However, if you just refer to my story for advice or just for thoughts, it can help. Just remember these things: do what you want to do, be around who you want be around, be who you are, and as always, exceed the expectations.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
