The Patronus Charm is a very difficult, but very famous defensive charm that has a very significant part in the Harry Potter books and films. The spell itself is very hard for witches and wizards to cast, so when someone produces it successfully he or she is considered very powerful. The Patronus Charm is important because it is the only defensive spell that can protect you from Dementors, who "feed on human happiness and extract souls with their Dementor's Kiss," according to Pottermore.
When the Patronus Charm is produced successfully, it takes the form of an animal. You may remember watching Harry teach Dumbledore's Army how to cast their own individual Patronus in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The animal form is a "silvery-white," opaque figure that serves as a protector or shield. Each individual produces a unique animal figure.
We no longer have to wonder what our Patronus would be if we lived in the magical world because J.K. Rowling loves us and has granted us the gift of discovery.
