With the 50th Super Bowl airing last night, millions of viewers had high expectations. This Super Bowl should have gone down in history for excitement, entertainment, intensity, and drama throughout the game. As viewers, we were waiting for those “wow” moments. Although Beyoncé nearly falling on stage was a tiny bit of a wow factor, that’s not what we meant. There were a few Super Bowl highlights like the Broncos' win and Lady Gaga’s stellar performance, but there were also a few major disappointments.
Low-scoring game
We were hoping the score would have been much higher than it was. First of all, for anyone who was a Panthers fan according to ESPN and many other sites, the Panthers were sure to win the game. But with the Broncos surprising millions of viewers with a win that was exciting, however, a higher final score would have made the game more interesting.
Commercials
I remember growing up and staying glued to the couch because I couldn’t imagine missing even one Super Bowl commercial. It was like one after another, they were all so good. Now watching the commercials, it was easy to get up and go to the bathroom, get another drink, fill up on more snacks, etc. Why? Because overall the commercials were a waste of time. With exception of only a few, the commercials were disappointing. Personally, my favorites are always the Doritos and Budweiser commercials. Those are always two brands that we can count on for bringing their A game during the Super Bowl, and this year they didn’t live up to the past.
Game plays
There really wasn’t anything impressive or exciting about the actual game. I was waiting for a big “wow” moment during the game that would keep the fans intrigued, but that element was really lacking, unfortunately.
Halftime show
What was that? Starting out with Coldplay in my opinion was a major disappointment. That’s not the first band that comes to mind when I think of opening acts for the Super Bowl. The halftime show should have seriously been amped up and full of entertainment. Inviting Special Guests Beyoncé and Bruno Mars to perform saved that halftime show.
Overall, Super Bowl 50 could have been A lot better. A higher scoring game with exciting plays would have been more interesting to watch. Especially if the game was neck and neck the entire time down to the last minute; now that would have been exciting and kept us fans on the edge of our seats. The commercials should have really been more impressive. I mean, if you’re going to spend that much money showcasing your brand/product for a few seconds during the Super Bowl, make it worth it. And for the halftime show? Out of all the entertainers in the industry right now, the show really lacked creativity and excitement. Thank goodness for the special guest performers because the halftime show needed that extra spark. Maybe next year will be better. Let's hope so.
