Dirty Laundry Discoveries

Scattered thoughts among scattered clothes

When I walk into my room lately, there's something different about it. Something just slightly off. For a minute I don't notice what it is, and then I see it: the giant pile of dirty laundry on my floor. Now, usually I'm a pretty neat and organized person when it comes to doing my laundry. I've got two hampers: one for the dirty laundry to go into and one for the clothes to go into once they're clean so I can sort them out and put them back in their respective places. However, when summer hits, it's not quite that simple.

See, when school's out, I don't exactly need to have the same wardrobe as I do when I have somewhere to be every day. When school's out, I can walk around the house in my pajamas for days in a row. I don't have to do my laundry every week to make sure I have clean clothes. I can let things pile up. I shouldn't, because that's gross and just makes a huge mess of things, but I do. Feel free to call me out, I deserve it.

So, where my dirty clothes hamper normally sits is a tiny pile of dirty clothes, because what have I really worn but pajamas? Come on, it's time to be lazy. Somewhere, actual miles across the room is my normal dirty clothes hamper full of the last load of laundry I did (maybe in the last era) that I just pick and choose clothes out of when I'm too lazy to get up and dig through my dresser drawers. Then my last hamper... Well, it's become a drying rack of sorts. It's all very interesting.

Pajamas are great and all, but dirty laundry isn't. Organization is key! Summer may be lazy time, but the least I can do is keep my clothes clean. In fact, you never really know what you'll find when you put some real effort into keeping that horrendous laundry situation clean and organized. It's nice to sometimes come across an old shirt you thought you'd lost, or a really nice looking summer hat you never got the chance to wear because it fell prey to that dirty laundry monster. Imagine all the summer treasures that could be hiding on that unnecessarily dirty floor! So come on, keep it up, and don't let that dirty laundry get the best of you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
