A poem for my dad

I always wonder about you, I hope you're doing well.

A poem for my dad

In This Article:

I bought a woman dinner today

Because she reminded me of you.

She couldn't find her wallet and only had a few dollar bills.

She was thin, and her eyes were sunken in

Just the way yours were.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because she was fidgeting around, and I knew food would help her sober up.

She said "sweetie, I can't let you do that,"

I told her that it was fine.

She insisted that I take her last few dollars

I told her to keep it.

I made a woman cry today

And I could only think of you.

She thanked me and said bless you more times than I can remember.

I told her to have a good night as I walked away.

The men left behind me

Talked about how great it was

That people still cared about other people.

"There's still good in the world."

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I wasn't there to buy you food when you needed it.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because your brother puts money in my bank account when I'm broke.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because we live in a world where drug addicts are told they deserve to starve.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because her smile reminded me of yours.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I hope someone bought you dinner when you were struggling to be clean.

I bought a woman dinner today

And would not look her in the eye

Because I didn't want her to see someone in me.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I wanted to do a good deed.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I can really use the good karma these days.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I wanted her to know that someone will always be there when times are rough.

I wanted so badly to be her "sign"

From the universe, from whatever God she believes in, from a guardian.

I bought a woman dinner today

And when my friends asked me why I said

"I don't know, she looked hungry."

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I've been trying to find closure since the day you fucking died.

I bought a woman dinner today

And my friend said, "she probably does that all the time, she's probably just a moocher."

I bought a woman dinner today

Because you would have done the same thing.

I bought a woman dinner today

In the hopes that I could finally let go of whatever the fuck I'm feeling

But I've only trapped myself more.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I was hoping to let go

But I find myself clinging more and more and more.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I hope you saw me, from where ever you are...

I hope you saw me

I hope that you smiled when I got home and cried about you again.

I hope that I made you proud, because even though you left this world all too soon, I still do little things that you would do.

I bought a woman dinner today

Because I wanted to buy dinner for you.

You and Bubs playing beerpong.

You don't even drink, and neither does Bubs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
