In college, group chats are the best way to keep in touch with your friends (who you see all of the time). My friends and I have one as well as most other people. Why do we feel the need to have a group chat, one might ask? We feel the constant need to communicate with each other every second of every day. I guess it's a generational disease. Each group has many different types of texters, which keeps life interesting. In my experience, I have found that people mold into the following types.
The unnecessary texter
The person is the most integral person in your group chat as she tends to be the most constant presence in your life. She lets you know everything that is happening in her life, regardless of how important it is. No matter how uneventful her texts are, your life gets so much better when you hear from her (which is every five minutes).
The elusive friend
She will almost never talk in the chat. And honestly, who even knows where she is half of the time? She is the independent one in the group and will rarely show up to plans, even when everyone else is in attendance. When she does show up, she is the most fun to be around because being with her is so rare. Even if you have not seen her in days, she will always be there if you need her.
The social texter
This texter is your most social friend. She is so in the know, it physically hurts. She makes you wish you were her because she is always out and gets good grades -- I don't know how. She knows what every frat or sorority is doing every night and is always down to go out and have fun. You can count on her to have the best time.
The gossip
This friend uses the group chat as her own social forum. She fills everyone in on the gossip circulating around campus. She is the closest you will ever get to having Dan Humphrey as a friend, and you love her as is. When she goes out she is always talking and getting random drama from her rogue friends who you most likely have never even seen before.
The absurd friend
This friend is your most absurd friend who always shares stories to brighten your day. If I wanted to flatter myself, I would say she is the Jennifer Lawrence of your friend group. She is constantly embarrassing herself around professors or guys, but you love it because she makes you laugh -- of course, at her expense. You love her, but more importantly, you love to make fun of her.
