New York City and Wells College are two very different places.

Being from New York City (no not Manhattan) then coming to Wells College was sort of a big change for me. The people here act differently then most of the individuals in the city. From their attitude to the way they talk. Even now theses differences this still sometimes catches me by surprise. Even though I am still in New York and really didn't go too far for college, I still feel that I am in a completely different state sometimes. Let me tell you some common things about NYC people, then tell you some comparisons to the people at Wells College.

1. The Blank Face

Walking down the street in the city, people don't usually smile at each other they just stare or look right past you. Going back home on vacations I had to learn those ways again. To not always smile at everyone. Especially the creepy guys who stare at you and you got to practically run past them. Normally when I do smile, people look at me like I am crazy. I understand because I used to look at people that smiled at me the same way. Here at Wells walking through campus you will always get smiles. You don't even have to know the person, they will always smile and say hi. That can actually probably make you a new friend you never knew and now you do just from saying "hi."

2. "You're Good"

Bump into someone by accident at Wells and you'll hear "you're good" when you apologize. In the city when you bump someone by accident there's always a chance that you will get a dirty look for it, it might even start a fight. Even if you do say sorry. The environment here at Wells is pretty much friendly. There is always someone that is willing to give a helping hand. We are really a tight community here.

When I first came to Wells College a lot of the rules here surprised me. Like the honor code, which says that students should not lie, steal, cheat, or deceive. There is always a chance that someone will steal your things but here it's very rare. Another example would be that some people don't lock their doors. Unless I don't have my key or forget to lock the door, I always lock my door because I am a bit more cautious of other people. I love the environment here but I can never forget where I come from. A place where people will steal your things in a second and that not locking your door to your house or apartment is not even a thought. I constantly have to remember that when I am in the city I am not in Aurora anymore. Remember to never forget the difference.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
