I Didn't Want To Write About The Election

I'm tired. I didn't want to write about the election this week. So I'm not going to. Instead, I will share some quotes about the election that I've collected.

"Last night I watched a group of boys in red hats laugh at a table of girls crying next to them. How telling. How upsetting. How frightening."

"The country has spoken. I guess I am just another p**** to grab."

"Love. ALWAYS. Trumps. Hate."

"Differences of political ideals are one thing, I can agree to disagree on many matters across a wide array of topics, but racism isn’t one of them, neither is hate, neither is the belittling of women or the judgment of others based on their appearance or their disability, or their sexual preference."

"To every single woman that I have ever met, gotten to know, or loved; to the daughter that I may have one day; to my mom and grandmothers who taught me to believe in people and push for greatness-- I'm sorry."

"My entire life, my dad has taught me not to cry. My entire life my parents told me that if I worked hard and didn't give up, everything would work itself out....My heart is heavy, and tonight I forget what my dad has taught me. Tonight I cried. But I won't let this setback deter me from moving forward."

"Do not let this defeat you—let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before."

"Breaks my heart. Thank you to all who have messaged me and checked up on me."

"To my LGBTQ family and friends: please know you are loved beyond measure."

"There are not enough tears. I'm scared for my safety. NO ONE should feel this way."

"These last few days have been stressful. Take some time to read that poem that moves you in new ways every time you read it. Talk to that friend who always makes you laugh. Lay in bed and take the best nap ever. Or just listen to the song that never fails to uplift you. We got work to do, but take care of yourself first."

"Hate won last night."

"I stand with people of color, women, Muslims, and the LGBTQ community because our differences make us beautiful."

"My heart really hurts."

"I can honestly say that I have never been more afraid for my future as a young woman and as a member of the LGBTQ community. "

"I always talk about not feeling hopeless. I forgot what it was like."

And the last and most important quote of the bunch:

"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
