I didn’t ask for this.

I didn’t ask for this pain. I didn’t ask for this suffering. I didn’t ask for this stress.

I didn’t ask to be held to such high expectations, or to be judged or ridiculed to the extent of which you do.

I didn’t ask to remember your life lectures or every single demeaning word that came out of your mouth as you ripped me apart for all that I was worth.

I didn’t ask for those endless nights where I lay awake, allowing my anxious mind to take over and consume my entire being.

And yet, I didn’t ask for this.

I didn’t ask for this comfort. I didn’t ask for this joy. I didn’t ask for this peace.

I didn’t ask to be held together by the support and love of my and family and friends.

I didn’t ask to remember those heart to hearts or every word of encouragement that came out of your mouth as you built me back up to show me how much I am worth.

I didn’t ask for those endless nights where I lay awake, allowing laughter, smiles, and goodness take over and consume my entire being.

Needless to say, I didn’t ask for this wonderful life.

You see, we all have our ups and downs, our good days and bad. What matters most is that we don’t allow the bad—the pain, suffering, and heartache— to take control.

Just because you fall short one day, one week, one month, or one year DOES NOT mean you live a bad life. There’s always something good, honest, and true that comes out of what seems like the never-ending hole of gloom and despair. Hold on to that notion, to that belief, that there’s always a positive that derives from the negative.

Trust me, it’ll get better, because you have someone on your side who is rooting for you always. When you see pain, He sees purpose. It’s all a part of God’s plan that is bigger and better than anything you could ever imagine. He is working though you in so many amazing ways that one day will all make sense.

Things may appear rough right now, but they will get better. Remember, God is with you every step of the way. You just need to hang in there and know that everything happens for a reason.
