We've all had those days where you wake up and everything is just rough, where everything is a drag and everything seems to just go all wrong. Have you ever noticed how with just a bad start, your whole day can be affected? The way you start your day is a crucial indicator of how the rest of the day will progress and unfold. In other words, what you do before you sit down at your desk and work will pretty much determine how the rest of your long, hard day will play out.
If we take a look at successful entrepreneurs, actors and singers, most of them have morning routines to prepare for their day. It seems as if this is what successful, happy and healthy people do to get the most out of their day.
If you wish days had more hours in them, or you can't find the motivation to get things done, then analyze the components of your morning rituals (we all have them, good or bad) and compare them to the five principles shown below. See what needs some fixing, altering and modifying. These are five principles that I believe are crucial to kick-start a positive and productive day.
According to a psychology article in the Huffington Post, a new habit can be formed in about 21 days.
1. Personal productivity.
Ask yourself what needs to be accomplished for the day. Make a list if needed, set a reminder and start to take care of them immediately.
2. Nutrition.
Understand that what you put into your body will greatly impact how you go on about your day. This is a reminder: garbage in, garbage out! Oh, and do not skip breakfast!
3. Physical activity.
The key here is to keep it light! Energize your morning with a small workout. It might feel rough the first few times, but after you get some push ups, jumping jacks, yoga or a light jog going, you will feel much more awake throughout the day.
4. Happiness.
It's OK to blow off some steam and de-stress. Try to do something that makes you happy, like playing guitar, to kick start your day feeling exuberant.
5. Emotional connection.
This is the most important note. Remember that friends and family are crucial to a social life on this planet, because they will soothe your soul and heart. Cherish the moments you have with them.
I really challenge you to make the most of every day, and that starts every morning. Always remember how limited our time is, so use it wisely. These steps are just to help you tailor your own routine. You don’t have to follow them in order, just make the necessary tweaks, and together let's start to be more disciplined.
