I’m sick of the tired old saying “Guns don’t kill people.” Yes. Guns are inanimate objects, so they cannot kill people, but they are used to kill people. Guns definitely have a huge role in deaths and mass shootings.
America needs laws for people who want to own guns. It’s absolutely ridiculous that it is the year 2016 and there seems to be a new mass shooting attack every day. It’s disgusting that people who are put on the Federal No-Fly List are allowed to purchase not only guns, but heavy powered assault rifles and machine guns with no questions asked.
People need to wake up. The government does not want to confiscate every single person's guns from them. That would be almost impossible. The government, or at least the majority of liberals and democrats, want there to be stricter laws behind the purchasing of guns. If you have a violent record or a criminal history, a gun probably wouldn’t be safe in your hands. If you’re known by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for going on ISIL websites and being an ISIL sympathizer, you should not be allowed to exercise your right to bear arms.
My family members have been on the no-fly list thanks to our common last name being a typical name being taken by people who enter this country. It’s crazy that if you are on this list you cannot step foot on a plane to anywhere, either nationally or internationally, but you can go buy heavy-duty machine weapons. If you can’t fly, you shouldn’t be able to purchase guns.
Why aren’t there ways to question why someone needs such heavy-duty guns? I’m sure no one purchases those weapons to hunt or to protect themselves.
I also hate the statement that these mass killings would still occur without guns. Yes, someone could walk into a bar or restaurant or wherever and start stabbing people or bludgeoning people with hammers or other potential weapons, but the truth is, they really don’t. Terrorists (what every mass shooter is) use guns because they’re easier and faster. Simply put, they’re more effective.
So let’s rethink how easy it is to purchase a gun here in the United States. We should question people’s intentions. We should require people to have a gun license approved by the state and the government. If you need a license to drive, fish, and hunt, you should be required to have a license for a gun. There should be a waiting period and safety training. All of this should be the very least we do in order to protect our citizens.
It may be a hassle for some gun owners who are responsible and want guns for practical reasons, but it’s a small price to pay to ensure your safety and your families’ safety. If you are going to be responsible with your guns, you’ll have nothing to worry about. You’ll probably be more at ease knowing that the people you buy a gun to protect yourself from may not have the power to buy a gun.
I know when I’m at the airport, I’m happy to comply with all of the security measures. I know that I have done everything correctly, so I have nothing to worry about. However, I’m not sure if everyone else around me has, so I expect everything and everyone around me to be searched equally. I want to know that I’ll be safe, so if that means I have to wait in a line, take off my shoes, and walk through metal detectors, then so be it. I’d rather be safe than sorry. Wouldn’t you?
