The Republican debates have taken the spotlight in the 2016 election. The wide variety of candidates in the GOP make them more interesting. Most Democrats have decided if they are feeling the Bern or if email scandals are more their speed (sorry, it was just too easy). Either way, the first Democratic debate that most people even knew was happening has just come to a close.
In case you weren't aware, there is a bit of a water crisis going on in the venue for this debate. If you do not know the city I am talking about, please read the news before you go to the polls to execute your civic duty. With Flint, Michigan as the stage, the two discussed water quality issues. While the overall stance that something needed to be done was shared, Clinton did the typical Clinton song and dance around the issue of fracking by stating the conditions under which she was okay with the practice. Sanders gave berning declarations that he under no circumstances supported fracking. On this issue, Sanders stood up to the massive energy industry which has been known to support Clinton.
Focused issues aside, the Democratic duo discussed the issues affecting the broader America. This is not to say that water quality is not an issue all across America, it just isn't thought of on a daily basis by the majority of voters. Trade and employment took a forefront. Sanders tried his best to tie NAFTA, which was signed by Hillary's husband and former President Bill Clinton, to his rival. He then talked about being on a picket line trying to prevent this from happening.
His argument was weak and the feminist groups are already losing their minds over his assumption that Hillary does not have a mind of her own. Maybe if Sanders had been trying to influence Congress inside of the Capitol building (he was in the House of Representatives at the time) something would have happened.
Either way, trying to pin NAFTA on Hillary is like trying to blame her for Monica Lewinsky too. This just looked desperate, Bernie. He was quoted as saying that "...you didn’t need a Ph.D. in economics to understand that American workers should not be forced to compete against people in Mexico making 25 cents an hour." Clearly he still does not have that degree, have you seen his tax plan?
There, you have your taste of the debate. I would encourage you to go watch the whole event online. One of these people will be given a 50/50 chance of being the leader of the free world. Shouldn't you at least know who could wind up in office?
