Long ago, there was a group of angry American colonists. These men were sick and tired of being robbed (taxed) by the royal British government, so they rallied the people of America to fight back against their British rulers. After winning a newfound freedom for the people, they promptly established a government and took that freedom away.
Let’s face it; the Founding Fathers had a pretty narrow understanding of liberty. Many of them owned slaves personally. The critical flaw in their thinking was the idea that freedom is something granted by government, rather than a natural right. They believed that as long as you have a vote in which politicians are in charge of you, then you are actually in charge of yourself. This assumes that a person’s rights are based on the desires of the majority. By that logic, your daughter’s right to keep her clothes on depends on the preferences of the three large men approaching her.
Fast-forward 240 years. We now submissively allow our rulers to rob us of our earnings, then use that money to keep millions of us locked away in profitable cages for victimless “crimes”, monopolize our most important industries, mass-murder foreigners for the sake of profit-centered imperialism, manipulate our economy to the point of widespread poverty and a withering middle-class and create an overall culture of state-exploited violent crime and perpetually fruitless serfdom.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that government is just a for-profit gang of violent thugs. Democracy paints a picture of that gang, government, as this central "we" or "society" deity that acts on behalf of "the people", rather than just a mob that works for itself and its corporate sponsors. This delusion that "we are the government" enables the state to commit whatever atrocity is profitable, and to do so with impunity. Expecting your government to protect you from bad guys is like expecting McDonalds to help you get in shape.
It’s no coincidence that this once small and “limited” state; the U.S., supposedly founded on the idea of maintaining freedom from aggressive power, has now become the most powerful aggressor in world-history. It’s simple economics. The elements of free-market capitalism and free trade that America once upheld, are what enabled the people of this land to become wealthy and successful. Correspondingly, we’ve become more comfortable, content, and submissive. This comfort, along with a nearly monopolized K-12 education industry, allows the state to dominate the minds of the people with a growing ease. Because of this government domination of our collective mindset, the state's tax-rates were able to increase alongside our growing wealth, to the point of the U.S. Government becoming the all-powerful authoritarian empire that it is now. “Limited government” is a myth.
Power wants more power, and that’s never going to change. You live in a nation of livestock; tax cattle, clinging to the protection of the slaughterhouse. No, it does not matter who happens to be running the slaughterhouse, the primary function any government serves is to allocate stolen loot. Steal money from everybody, then spend it for "the people". The elected officials IN government build their own fortunes with ease, simply by allocating that tax-plundered loot in ways that they can personally enjoy a cut of it. That's what government is for. When you gain your power by getting elected, the people will blame each other when you harm them. Think about it, that has got to be the most lucrative position any criminal could ever be in.
The entire foundation of government is one big misconception. That misconception is that in order for the people to have a thing that they want, we must all be robbed, with the loot put towards a central version of whatever that thing is. We’re taught (in government-run schools) to believe that without government providing roads, security, and education…. we just wouldn’t have roads, security, and education.
As if without government providing food, we just wouldn’t have food. Oh wait, we do have food, and it’s not provided by the government. Our food is provided by competing businesses that exist because people want food and people want money. They actually tried making food a government-run service in the Soviet Union, and 7 million people starved to death. Unlike businesses, governments have no monetary incentive to please the consumers, so everything provided by government is provided at minimal quality and maximum price. Businesses, on the other hand, meet demands competitively and cost-efficiently. Where there is a demand for a producible thing, you find a supply of the given thing. As long as people want firefighters, there will be firefighters, for the same reason there is food.
No robbery needed. A service provided the normal way, such as pizza delivery, will always yield astronomically better quality than any service provided by robbing everybody. That's why, unlike police; pizza delivery guys aren't known for shooting people's dogs. Nobody would buy from the pizza place that murders customers' pets. That's because unlike government, private businesses are accountable to the people. Police departments, militaries, government courts, etc., cannot go out of business or lose customers, which is why they get away with doing such horrible things and providing such low-quality "service".
The cause and enabler of everything government does, whether it's a sales tax or the Holocaust, is the belief, by the public, that the initiation of violent force is okay and necessary as long as it's done by certain people. If we are to become a peaceful society, we must rid ourselves of this barbaric line of thinking. Even if I outnumber you, I have no right to rule you. Popularity does not justify force. The freedom, and therefore the success, of any society, is entirely dependent on the liberty of the individual. If the individual is forced to obey the whims of the majority, then society is far from free. Good ideas do not require aggression, and liberty is not compatible with democracy.
