It's the most wonderful time of the year, which means it's officially acceptable to watch the most wonderful movies without being judged! Sometimes it seems like there are too many movies to choose from this time of year, so in case you don't know where to start, here is a list of the top 14 Christmas movies around.
14. Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
This is one of those movies that you forget exists until the Christmas season rolls around and then you can't escape it. I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite Christmas movies, but it's definitely a timeless classic.
13. Frosty the Snowman
Just like "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," this movie is on the list only because of it's classic story. There is nothing exceptionally special about the movie itself, but who doesn't like watching a chubby, snowy blob waddle around town?
12. Polar Express
The animation of this movie makes me extremely uncomfortable. I don't like that it's so realistic, yet so obviously fake at the same time. My brain can't handle it. However, there's something to be said about a movie that simultaneously breaks your heart and warms it, all while bringing forth a sense of nostalgia.
11. Jingle All the Way
I mean, it's the Terminator dressed up like a superhero at Christmas. I really don't know what else you need.
10. Miracle on 34th Street
Let's be honest, we all knew the little girl was going to save Santa from being locked away, but that doesn't make the story any sweeter.
9. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
I think "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," "Frosty the Snowman," and this movie always get grouped together as the trifecta of classic Christmas movies, so it might seem weird that "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" scored so much higher on the list. It's not weird, though, Rudolph is just really stinking cute I had to put him in the top 10.
8. It's a Wonderful Life
Don't be fooled by all the sad stuff at the beginning, this movie is the perfect example of the kind of joy and hope the Christmas season can bring.
7. A Charlie Brown Christmas
"'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.' That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."
6. A Christmas Story
Aside from having a TV station dedicated to playing it for 24 hours straight on Christmas, "You'll shoot your eye out," is probably one of the most iconic quotes of any Christmas movie.
5. Love Actually
This movie isn't your typical feel-good Christmas film. It takes you through several different stories displaying the heartbreak, love and hope that can come from the holiday season. It's witty humor and star-filled cast isn't too bad either.
4. The Santa Clause
Since the first time I saw this movie I have secretly wished my dad would accidentally knock Santa off the roof and become the new Santa Claus.
3. Elf
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear," is the best Christmas mantra ever. Also I think we can all get on board with only eating candy.
2. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Don't lie, you cried when the Grinch's heart grew three sizes that day.
1. Home Alone
I still don't fully understand how a child gets left behind on Christmas for multiple years in a row, but I'm glad that he did. Even as an adult I still wish I was as bad-ass as Kevin McAlister in the booby-trapping department.
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.
And no, "Die Hard" is not a Christmas movie.
