Logic's '1-800-273-8255' Is An Anthem Of Hope

We are all in this gray area.

The truth is none of us are alone. Most of us are stuck in the gray area. Why do we feel so alone if we're all in this gray area together? We live in a society where one group of people think that having suicidal thoughts means a person wants to die, while another group thinks that these people are just going through a phase. We feel alone in this gray area, because we live in a divided closed-minded world. No one wants to talk about it, no one wants to admit it, and no one wants to face the truth that they have been in this gray area.

Suicidal ideation, also known as suicidal thoughts, is thinking about or an unusual preoccupation with suicide. Most people who have suicidal thoughts do not go on to make suicide attempts. This is the gray area. The gray area is having these thoughts of not wanting to be around, because life is hard sometimes, but we still want to live. We just don't want to hurt anymore. We've all been there; the gray area.

Logic's powerful suicide anthem "1-800-273-8255" delivers a message of hope for everyone in this gray area. He talks about how we have all felt before, but puts it into better words than we even can. How did he know how you were feeling, even though he doesn't even know you? Because you're not alone.

In the pre-chorus, he says, "I've been on the low, I been taking my time, I feel like I'm out of my mind, it feel like my life ain't mine." We've all had low points in our life. We feel like we have no control and have lost our sanity.

In verse 1, he says "I know I'm hurting deep down but can't show it." We all feel like we have to wear this mask of a brave face.

In verse 2, he delivers the message of hope by saying "It's holding on, though the road's long and seeing light in the darkest things." The ironic beauty of this gray area is knowing we want to live, because yes life is hard, but it's only temporary. Some of us have longer roads than others of facing hardships, but all roads end eventually. There will be a new road coming your way and you will find it with the light guiding you.

The truth is none of us are alone. Someone somewhere is feeling the same way as you. Someone somewhere has been where you are and has conquered this battle. Someone somewhere has been on the same road as you and found a new path. Someone somewhere has found hope through all of this, and so can you. Someone somewhere is happy that you are alive.

"You don’t gotta die, I want you to be alive.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
