What Is Love?

There is no concrete definition.

“Love doesn't make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile,” said Franklin P. Jones, an American businessman of the early 20th century. The truth is, there is no real definition for the feeling of love. It is never concrete, uniform, or similar to the next, therefore no author, poet, or philosopher can ever accurately define it. The dictionary definition of love says it to be an “intense feeling of deep affection,” however those who experience it know it to be much more than that. Nicholas Sparks says that “love is like the wind. You can't see it, but you can feel it,” and Alexander Smith summarizes it as “the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition.” Not only is love impossible to define due to its significantly different effects on those by which it casts itself upon, but also for the reason that there are many kinds of love. While the subject of love is overwhelmingly personal and specific, humans worldwide continue to try to define it.

It is definitely true that people who have not experienced love have an incomparable definition to those who have, however at the same time, as previously mentioned, everyone's definition is different. To me, love is not only about how you feel about another person, but it is also about how that person makes you feel about yourself. Love is not about telling someone that you love them, but it is about showing them. It is about paying attention to what they say and not only listening, but hearing. When you feel proud for someone instead of jealous, that is love. When you are able to fully and completely trust someone, that is love. There is no guessing, no pretending, and no silence. Love is spontaneous. It talks until three in the morning on a weekday even though it has to wake up before sunrise. And finally, love sees you at your weakest moments just as often as it sees you at your best. When two people love each other, whether it be a mother and a daughter, best friends, or lovers, they do not let small things break that love apart. Because, let's be honest. Love is difficult, and it is definitely not perfect, but it is wonderful.

While your definition may be far different from mine, it is that difference that makes the world such an incredible place. People have different beliefs and religions, different dreams and different talents. And, if you think about it, this earth would be a pretty boring place without all of this diversity. The feeling of love has yet to have a real definition. But at least we know that it exists. And it is beautiful.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
