Merriam-Webster defines beauty as:
The qualities in a person or a thing that give pleasure to the senses or the mind.
Urban Dictionary defines beauty several ways:
Something inside the "beholder's" eye.
Beauty is a corporate invention designed to promote the suffering and insecurity of the masses for the sake of profit.
Something which embodies the trait of unmatched aesthetic and inner beauty, regardless of external influences.
One writer for the Huffington Post describes beauty as:
Beauty is happiness.
What more could I possibly have to add to the argument about what is means to be beautiful? Are any of these definitions the right one? If everyone has a different perception or definition of beauty than how can someone know what is truly meant when they are called beautiful or not?
Maybe what I have to say is just another one of the many attempts at defining a word that no one will ever agree on. So what is the point in writing about it if it has already been done a thousand times?
Because I have a voice. I am beautiful. I can say something even if only a few will listen although I hope that more will hear. Beauty is a discussion worth having over and over again because there are still so many people that do not see it in themselves and that is unfortunate. So here is my attempt at telling a few more men and women that you are beautiful!
I believe beauty is all of the definitions above and more. That beauty is healthy. Beauty is confidence. Beauty is you. Like everything in life you get what you put into something. Whether you believe it is genetics, God or some other force, you have been created to look a certain way so embrace it.
Let's focus for a minute on outward beauty. Is everyone beautiful? I can't answer that but I do know that everyone has the potential to be. The more you believe in something, especially yourself, the more others will believe. If you believe you are beautiful, walk like you are beautiful, talk like you are beautiful then you will be beautiful to more than just yourself. But really the most important thing is what you think of yourself, not what anyone else thinks.
Now, the obvious other side of this is inner-beauty which may be harder to achieve. It is also not always present because we have both good and bad in us. Finding a balance between the two is what creates true beauty, but a person can also be beautiful when they embrace the good. It is not possible to always be good. We all have involuntary thoughts that are negative. And guess what? That is OK. But beauty can still exist in any moment.
Beauty is about what you think of yourself and nothing else.
