Just when you thought Donald Trump was the most interesting character in the 2016 presidential bid, a new independent candidate going by the name "Deez Nuts" has requested to be on the ballot.
A 15-year-old Iowa boy named Brady Olson revealed earlier this week that he was the one who registered with the Federal Elections Commission last month under the alias. When prompted by media, Olson replied by email stating, "School’s starting back up and I still have to sort this out." Olson, at the age of 15, is not yet registered to any political party but says he identifies mostly as a Libertarian. When asked why "Deez Nuts" entered the presidential race, Olson revealed that it was a movement in order to "clear the way for a future third-party movement" and because he was dissatisfied with the current front-runners (Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush, and Donald Trump).
The website launched by the campaign suggests Libertarian values: pro-gay marriage yet anti-illegal immigration except in the case of minors.
Soon enough, social media caught onto the new trend and started asking Public Policy Polling, a nonscientific polling operation, to add candidate, "Deez Nuts" to it's surveys. After being up for three weeks in head-to-head polls against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and Republican front-runner Donald Trump, "Deez Nuts" polled at 7 percent support in Iowa, 8 percent in Minnesota and made news with 9 percent in North Carolina.
When asked who he would like to see among other candidates take on the White House, he went with Bernie Sanders (D-VT).
Contrary to his beliefs, the candidate has still been receiving publicity and the pollster plans to see if the trend remains in this weekend's New Hampshire survey.
