Everyday we are faced with real-life situations that make us question our compassionate character. Whether you're looking for ways to improve your social life or not, everyone can benefit from this.
I'm here to help.
Don’t applaud a fish for swimming.
I am very fond of humility. Honestly, if you have an uncontrollable ego, chances are that we are not friends. What I am about to talk about is a way people reach this level of bigheaded-ness and then continue once they’ve gotten there. I’ve spoken on this many times. Behold, the automatic trophy syndrome. People who expect praise for everything they do are the WORST types of people. What’s even worse? People who give them this praise. There is a very obvious difference between sharing news because you are excited, or sharing news to get attention. We all know the difference. Just grow silently and earn your respect. Don’t ask for it.
You have a filter, use it.
This one goes out to those who like to give their unsolicited opinion, say rude things, and bring people down for fun. I 100% support telling the truth, but do it nicely. If someone looks bad in a dress, and they ASK (keyword) for your opinion, do not tell them that they look fat or ugly. It is immature and just plain rude. So stop.
Don’t put people down to make yourself seem better.
I see this way. Too. Much. People just love to make others’ problems seem insignificant compared to theirs. Here is an example: Someone is upset because their parents got divorced, and now they have to go back and forth between houses. Someone else is bored, and decides to be an awful person, and tells them “at least your parents are alive, my dad died when I was six so just be thankful, it could be worse.” Are you kidding? Do not do this.
You have no right to tell anyone how big or little their problems are. The first person not only feels humiliated but now feel obligated to throw you a pity party.
Don’t be fooled, this list goes on & on. Long story short: Don’t be a crappy person. Be kind, understanding, and as patient as you can be. Know your worth (but don’t overestimate it). Just be better. We all can.
Rant over.
