Dear Wissahickon

Hail Wissahickon, the Gold and the Blue.

Dear Wissahickon

Dear Wissahickon,

The end is coming near. I know that even though classes are coming to a close the day you walk across the stadium seems like it’s so far away, but even though I graduated a year ago I feel like I was navigating through the knuckle yesterday. I’m sure that you cannot wait to leave Wiss behind, but I can tell you this for sure; you might not like high school, you may never miss it once you leave, your blood may never be gold and blue; but Wissahickon will always stick with you.

(please ignore thatrhyme, I’m trying to avoid cheesy but it’s inevitable)

There will always be a memory of Wissahickon that will follow you no matter where you go.

Maybe you’ll remember the quirks of our school; the aggravation of the knuckle, getting rained on in Lower D hall, trying to figure out why M Hall and D Hall connect.

Maybe you will remember the Trojan Feats; getting on the news, crafting the best Silent Night costume, gaining the most Finsta followers (to those non Wissahickonites reading this: yes, Finsta is a thing, just roll with it).

Maybe you will look back and think of the classroom that you thought of as home, the teachers that became your in-school parents, and the students that became your family. If you were a WTV Kid, a Marching Band-er, a Theater Nerd, on the Robotics Team part of the Yearbook or Newspaper staffs, or a member of any of the endless clubs, sports teams, or opportunities, you know what I mean. Those people become the best part of high school, no matter how long it’s been since you’ve seen them you will always meet again with wide smiles.

Maybe you will look back at high school and remember nothing but the first day and the last day. But wherever you go after Wissahickon, this school, the teachers, the students, the staff, even the cafeteria food, has become your key to success, and the key to your future.

You’re on the Verge of the rest of your lives.

Wherever you go, make it great.

Love,

Your fellow Wissahickonite.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
