College makes you appreciate everything you take for granted at home and vice versa. It’s a crazy ride, from rigorous schedules, extracurriculars and the constant flow of people coming in and out of your room. You learn to block out your neighbor's bad singing and not spend too much time in the shower. And after you’ve never had to share a room for years, college changes you. As our sophomore year comes to a close and summer is approaching, I look forward to my bed, home-cooked food and turning on the air conditioning whenever I want. But I will miss my college friends and especially you more than anything. Knowing that starting junior year, I will be commuting makes me hope we’ll keep in touch for the duration of college.
I’ll miss bonding over our million and one diseases that we have, and you trying to convince me to get a cat. I’ll miss the gossip, complaining about classes and professors and studying with you. Sometimes we drove each other crazy, but we’re only human. Thanks for dealing with me and I hope you’re surprised with this article that you don’t know I’m writing for you.
Although we ended up being roommates in a nonconventional way, thank you for being you. Your personality almost mirrors mine and we clicked instantly. I’m so glad we met in January last year so that we had time to get to know each other before committing. Also, shoutout for cleaning the suite when everyone slacked. You’re the only one I know who would fearlessly walk barefoot everywhere - even though I told you to wear flip-flops every time.
Also, thank you for coming home safe from parties. Even though College Avenue at night still scares me (it’s been almost three years), I’d still be willing to bring you home. I will never forget that one night with the laundry basket, nor will I ever get over all your crazy stories, so keep me updated next year! I’ll miss mom-ing you and checking up on you whenever I had the chance. I’ll miss our 2 a.m. conversations about your cat and how I need to get one because they’re the best type of pet, and even though they’re like a child at first, they’ll leave you alone for the most part (even though I’m dead-set on a pug). You never did put pictures in those frames on your walls, but I hope you do next year - and I hope I’m in them. I know finals are driving you crazy, but I hope this article makes you smile. I know you’re working and taking classes this summer which will keep you busy, but regardless, we should definitely work on hanging out whenever we can. Don’t worry, even though I’m commuting next year, I’ll be back in September as your pseudo-roommate in between my classes when I have nowhere to go. I hope you have the best summer ever and an even better junior year.
Much love and see you soon,
Manasi
