If you have ever been on the campus of Texas A&M, you have most likely heard of Breakaway. Breakaway is an on-campus ministry that meets every Tuesday at 9pm in Reed Arena. Every week, thousands of students show up, and every week, hundreds of students leave forever changed. It's incredible to be a part of this, and to be on a campus where God's name is spoken and known.
Last night, as every American should know, was Election Night. It was also a Tuesday night. Which means, that just like every other Tuesday night on the campus of Texas A&M, thousands showed up to Reed Arena at 9. If you didn't show up, you missed out. What an incredible time; thousands proclaimed the name of Jesus while the world was waiting to find out who are future President would be.
The worship and message were powerful, and God was present. We listened to the message about how as Christ followers, we have so much more to hope in than any man. The night closed with thousands of students on the floor, on their knees crying out to God for the sake of our nation. It was beautiful to hear so many voices calling out to the Lord, asking for unity and revival and praying for the heart of our future President.
As the night closed, we walked out of Reed, still humming along to the song that had just ended and quickly refreshing the polls. But this time while we refreshed, it was different than before. While we were all still nervous and excited to see who our President would be, there was also peace. Peace that no matter what, God would be in control.
My problem with our country is this, we put so much faith into one man or woman and it is consistently disappointing.
So dear fellow Christ followers, I encourage you with this: pray. If you don’t like our country right now, then stop what you’re doing, get on your knees, and cry out to the one who is in control. There is power in prayer. More power than any political leader we will ever know. Pray for God to show up, because when God shows up, things happen. Pray, and ask for revival. Pray without ceasing, because only prayer can heal the brokenness. Prayer has power, and if we really want to “Make America Great Again,” our nation is going to need more prayer than ever. So dear Christ follower, today, I encourage you not to spend your time worrying and posting and talking about how our nation is destined to fail. No matter who you voted for, you still have power to change the world. Pray. Pray for revival in this nation, because the only way our country will be great again is through an unwavering hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. And above all, show love. Show love to those who have no hope; lead them towards the one you have decided to place your hope in. Stop saying you won’t be friends with those who voted for the candidate you voted against and stop mourning our nation. This is your time to be a leader and a prayer warrior. Hope in the Lord, because He is forever in control.
