Dear Mom.

He loves you. And I do, too.

Mom, I want to start by thanking you for all you have done for me.

You do so much to hold our family together. You go through the day doing behind the scenes stuff, and I’ll never understand why you do what you do until I become a mom. I know that you have constantly prayed for us kids, but here is my prayer for you.

  1. I pray that you would find joy. We will fail you over and over again, but God will not. He chose you to be my mom. He chose you to advocate for our family. He chose you for a reason. I pray that you would know that you inspire me. You are so incredibly strong. You struggle through different things, yet you still have a brave face in your darkness.
  2. I pray that you would find a group of people that will encourage you in your walk with Christ. I pray that you would find encouragement from everyone around you, even at home. I pray that you would be encouraged to go out to new places and see new things and meet new people. I pray that you would be motivated to go out and speak about what God has done in your life. I know it doesn’t all make sense. I know it hurts, but He will remain beside you. I pray you would be encouraged by us at home and that we would be able to see you blossom and prosper. You have been there for each of us while we have hurt and gone through pain. You have supported us in everything we do. I pray that we can share that same support with you when you hurt and go through pain.
  3. Lastly, I pray you would find peace. It gets stressful and hard, but when it gets to be that way, cling to the One who sustains us all. I pray that you would find comfort in the words of those who encourage you. I pray you would find peace in knowing that His love will never fail. I pray that you would find patience in the times where you have that “I need it now” mindset. I pray you would find patience in waiting for God to use you more. He created you with a purpose. He loves you. And I do too.

Thank you for all you do. It is an honor to be your daughter.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
