Dear Mom, Know This

I can only hope to be half the woman you are some day.

Dear Mom, Know This
Rachael Dugo

Dear Mom,

Know this:

Know you're my go-to.

From 3 a.m. phone calls from the club telling you about the asshole I met, to face timing me to show me how to cook myself dinner, you're ALWAYS my go-to girl. It seems as if moms have the answers to absolutely everything in the world, so thank you for always knowing exactly how to help.

Know your guidance has taught me more than you'll ever know.

Yes, when I was little you taught me not to call people names, or eat dessert before dinner- but you've shaped me into so much more over the years. From my crazy drama-filled teen years, you've taught me the true meaning of friendship, what I deserve in a relationship, and how to take anything life throws at me with a smile and a confident attitude. Mom, you're a bad ass and you know what they say, "I got it from my momma."

Know you are every little girl's perfect role model.

You take whatever life gives you, and you kill it. You've taken over the role of both parents, and you still manage to support us and give us everything we've ever wanted and more. You're my personal nurse, chef, therapist, academic advisor, etc. all in one. You're so hardworking and dedicated to everything you do, and you inspire me to become just like you. The world really needs more people like you, mom.

Know I Thank you for always telling me the truth, even if I don't want to hear it.

You're always keeping it real girlfriend. No one wants to hear that the boy they like is actually a fratty asshole, or that the dress really does make you look fat, but at the end of the day your mom's opinion or view is ALWAYS right.

Know you always accept me, and defend me.

I swear I could kill someone and you'd still have my back (ok not really, but you get the point). I love that you let me make my own decisions, even if they're against your opinion. And when the time comes that I realized I messed up and you were right, you never tell me "I told you so". Instead, you comfort me in my mistakes and show me how to grow and learn from them all. So thanks for always being in my corner, even when I'm totally wrong and everyone (including you) knows it.

Know I cherish you for always being my biggest fan.

From dance recitals when I was little, to every award ceremony, to sports banquets, and for just calling me randomly to tell me you're proud of me. Your confidence and pride in me builds me up every single day and reminds me that I always have a purpose in this life.

Lastly, know I thank you for being my best friend.

For being the "cool mom" and picking me and my friends up at 3am from the parties. For singing and dancing around the living room with me on Friday nights, and always being the first person you tell your work gossip too. For holding me when I cry, and crying with me from laughing. For all the inside jokes people think we're crazy for, and the memories we've made that will last a lifetime. You're my number one chick, and my mom all in one, knowyou're my superwoman.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
