I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Invented in China in 200 BC , ice cream has involved from a mixture of snow and ice flavored with honey and nectar to be one of the most popular of sweet treats. Most traditionally thought of as a dessert food, ice cream has taken over our supermarket aisles, our home freezers, and our hearts.
What’s so nice about ice cream is that it comes in all shapes and sizes. Want some rich chocolate blended with strawberry cheesecake? There’s an ice cream flavor for that. Craving some smooth vanilla bean with caramel clusters? There’s an ice cream flavor for that. Need something sweet that won’t judge you to lean on while you cry? There’s several ice cream flavors for that.
Ice cream is appealing to all people, all ages, and all desires. For my health-trendy, organically crazed people out there, there’s even ice cream made from almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk, and cashew milk. Want something healthier than that? You’re covered! There’s ice cream made simply from frozen fruit combined with natural goodness to form what we fancy people call sorbet.
Need more than that? Dr. Oz says there’s health benefits that this savory treat of frozen deliciousness gives us! In moderation (no more than three days a week), ice cream provides “your body with a handful of key nutrients, including bone-strengthening calcium and phosphorus, blood-pressure-lowering potassium and energizing B vitamins.” #score.
Want another scoop? It may help you lose weight. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that “women who ate, at least, one serving of full-fat dairy products, such as ice cream, gained less weight than those who didn’t.” With weight-loss being a never-ending trend, we could really learn to benefit from all of the gifts that ice cream has to offer.
Not to mention, it also may help fight infertility. While that may not be something all of us are looking to do, it’s nice to know that our favorite indulgence can help us do it. This combined with the nutrients it supplies, it’s no secret that ice cream can be very beneficial to our everyday lives.
If that wasn’t enough already, it may also boost your sex drive. How you may ask? Since ice cream is high in calcium and phosphorus, it helps build your muscles’ energy reserves and boost your libido (your sex drive). #gimmemore
While all of these facts are interesting and definitely working in ice cream’s F(l)avor, the most important thing it does is make us smile. There’s a reason why we feel so good every time we take a lick of ice cream, and it isn’t solely because it tastes good. It has been found that just one spoonful of the cold and creamy goodness actually makes you happy. The simple fact that ice cream is a happy food is enough reason to love it and want some more of it.
