Dear freshman year me,
Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday I was packing up and moving to New York, but it's been over two and a half years since then. Wow! I couldn’t be more proud of the woman I (we?) have become. That's not to say I couldn't have changed a few things along the way. If there’s anything you need to know it is the following.
Ditch the high school boyfriend.
I know you guys get along perfectly now and there seems to be no reason to break up, but trust me—there are so many other people out there. Give them a chance. High school has boys, college has men (aka older boys).
For the love of God, it's OK to skip class every once in awhile.
Missing three classes the whole semester will not kill you or your GPA.
When a teacher gives you a B+ and not the A- you deserve, talk to them!
Don't settle and be afraid to speak up. Your GPA will thank you in the long run. Every little bit counts.
You’re not going to like your roommates, and that’s normal.
There are plenty of other places on campus to spend your time at.
It's OK to go out during the school week, even if you have an early class the next day.
Set alarms before you go out and have a bottle of water waiting by your bed. Don't make this a weekly thing, but still have fun with your friends. You can always nap after class.
Keep going to the gym!
You have so much motivation that you will lose sophomore year when you live so far away from the gym. Stay in shape as long as you can.
Rush!
It will be the best decision you make in college. Trust me! Go with your heart, and go Kappa. You will learn to love and hate these girls. Your friends will make fun of you, but don’t listen to those GDI's.
Join student government, despite how lame it seems.
The people will surprise you, and it looks great on your resume!
Take more pictures!
Be that annoying friend who always takes candids. The rest of the group will love you.
Buy going out clothes!
Buy a crop top and a skirt! Buy black jeans and tanks! I don’t care what it is, just stop living out of your friends' closets.
Treasure the friends you have this year.
You were lucky enough to meet great people so early in your college career and those are the people who will be there for you until the end. Laugh at every dumb joke, dance to "No Interruption" over a thousand times, and be jerks to each other in the group message.
Live life to the fullest.
You will never have to live in a dorm ever again! You may think freshman year was the greatest time, but wait until you meet sophomore year. Long Live Gartland E20!
Love,
Older, yet not much wiser, me
