Dear Crush... I Still Like You
Orland Batongbakal

Dear Crush,

Yes, I'm talking to you, girl!

I know we haven't met face-to-face yet, but that is fine for now.

You probably didn't know I even exist.

We live hundreds of miles apart from each other but that doesn't stop me from admiring you.

I know that you are with someone at this time and that might be a discouraging fact for me, but my admiration for you doesn't change.

I admire you so much because...

… you're beautiful. You really are beauty queen material.

… I deeply believe that along with your outer beauty comes your inner beauty and kind heart.

… I believe you love your family very much. I know you are a good sister to your siblings. I also know you are a good aunt to your nieces. I can see how you deeply love them as if they are your own.

… I believe you're also smart and hardworking. And I need that kind of influence to rub off on me.

… I believe you have a good, strong and healthy relationship with your friends. I need that kind of friendship myself.

… you seem to be a physically fit person. Well, look at me, I greatly need that kind of person like you to be my friend.

I just want to let you know that...

… I exist.

… I care deeply about your likes and dislikes, what you do for fun, what kind of beliefs in life you have even though we haven't met yet in person and you are already have someone.

… I always want to compliment you about your looks and achievements. I want to sympathize with all your struggles that you face everyday.

… you can count on me for everything that you might need. I can be a shoulder to cry on, be someone to laugh and cry with, be a good friend when you get to know me.

... I really like you so much!

Don't worry about me pursuing you closely, I respect your relationship with your man.

If I had learned something from my heartbreaks, it is that I shouldn't expect something highly from someone I admire. Expecting too much just leads to a broken heart, an abused spirit, and a troubled mind.

All I can do is admire you from afar, pray you know I exist, and hope that one day we could at least be close friends! All I can do is to follow your life through the social media and be satisfied that we are acquainted this time.

I hope you find what you wanted and needed in your life. You will be in my thoughts and my prayers, you and your entire family in this your great time of need.

I hope you would find this letter in good condition and not be upset on what I had said here.

That would be all. I really hope we can cross paths, speak with each other soon, get to know each other, connect on many aspects, and have a lasting friendship wherever we end up. Remember, you are beautiful inside and out.

Sincerely,

Your not-so-secret admirer.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
