Dear College Students,
College is a scary place. You're thrown head first into a new environment, lifestyle, and a new routine. You're doing great. Whether you're living on campus, commuting from home, or taking courses online, this one's for you:
1. Sleep. If you don't get enough sleep you will not be able to go to class or get your work done to the best of your ability, and you're paying too much to not give everything you've got.
2. People say these are "the best 4 years of your life." Don't believe them. Instead, set yourself up to have a lifetime of "best years" after you graduate. College isn't the end of your life story.
3. You are special. (Your mom was right.) There isn’t anything that you could ever do that would change the love your family has for you.
4. You're a student first. Have fun, but remember that your education is more important than your social standing. An educated mind is able to entertain a thought without accepting it. Always be cautious of where your mind leads for your actions follow your mind.
5. God is real, and He loves you. He answers your prayers and desires in His time, not yours. He will change you for His purposes, not yours. He is full of mercy and grace. Even in loss and pain He will carry you. Believe in Him always.
6. Wherever you go, go with all your heart. Always stand up for yourself and choose your friends wisely, for they help shape who you will become in the future.
7. Be a leader not a follower. Never judge anyone harshly and always stick up for people who cannot fight for themselves.
8. There are no shortcuts in life. There are two paths in this life: wide and straight and narrow and difficult. (The difficult one leads you to where you ought to be.)
9. "Success is the ability to go from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm." Never give up unless it is the only option you have in order to be successful in the long run. Always be the best version of yourself.
10. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and challenge you emotionally and spiritually. But, at the same time, do not allow anyone to take control of your life for you need to maintain control of what you are responsible for.
Most importantly...always remember:
You have purpose. Even when you're overwhelmed, tired, or feel like you can't do it anymore. When you feel like throwing in the towel, remember why you started.
Sincerely,
Someone Who's Been There
