Dear 2017 Graduates

It's going to be alright.

This year is your time, and next year will be mine. That's kinda scary, isn't it? You looked up to so many people, including seniors who were about to graduate themselves. Now that you are in their position, you are the ones we look up to. And soon you'll be on your own, released from college and handed over to the "real world." For some, it's exciting! After years and years of exams, eight AM classes, thinking of dropping our or worrying about not completing enough credit hours, who wouldn't want to be released from the confines of a student's life? But with this release comes with a huge burden. Maybe there's graduate school. Maybe there's apartment hunting and student loans to start paying off. Maybe there's just a whole lot of uncertainty, and that's okay. This time in your life might be the biggest leap away from the safety of your peers, professors, and family you've ever taken. But no matter how big of a leap, you are never straying too far from the ones who love you.

So, enjoy this time! It's completely yours! You're likely in your twenties and still have that youthful glow about you, ready to sieze the day and sieze the world. Make the most of it. Dare to challenge yourself and say "yes" to things you never had before. Explore all that life has to offer, make new friends, and introduce yourself until there is not a single person who doesn't know your name. Take care of yourself and take time to thank the people who helped you reach this special stage in your life. You're free to experiment, explore, and dedicate yourself to new ideas.

I'm not saying it will be easy. In fact, it will likely be difficult and confusing and sometimes impossible. So, prepare yourself for that. Take care of what you can and don't sweat the small stuff. True, you have to think about the future as well as the present. Perhaps you are going to get a job in the field you spent years studying for and the job market isn't particularly friendly at the moment. Perhaps you're going to get the exact opposite of what you wanted. That's cool.

Just take the world by storm, it's finally yours! We're here for you and always will be. You can always find a home at your college.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
