Dear Little...

Open letter to my little sister.

Oh Smalls,

I have no clue how to explain how much I love you in just a short letter. In only a little over a semester, you have become not only one of my best friends, but also one of my biggest role models. I don't know how I made it through 19 years of life before meeting you. So many people on the outside of Greek life see Big/Little relationships as silly or superficial, but I know that getting you as a little changed my life for the better.

If I had to describe you to someone who doesn't know you, I would say that you are the most confident, ambitious, and generous woman that I have ever met. I would say that when you love someone, you love them with your entire heart. I would say that you are gorgeous and could give anyone some killer fashion tips. I would say your sass level can't be beat, and it never fails to make me laugh. But most of all, I would say that you are the perfect definition of a strong sorority woman. To say I am proud of you doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of how I feel about all you've accomplished.

In only a short semester, you have become a strong leader in our chapter, touched the hearts of so many of our other sisters, and become a critical role model to so many sisters, including me. You continue to inspire me with your leadership skills and confidence. I brag about you to everyone, and listen proudly as other sisters rave about how great you are. While it's my job as a Big to be your role model, people don't realize that a Little can be a huge role model in your sorority experience. Any guidance I have given you has been minimal, because you are so self-driven.

I love our long talks, our choppy texts, our arguments over who's paying for what, our random nights chilling at your apartment, and our cheesy photo sessions. I love that you hate when I buy you things (but still low key enjoy my gifts). I love that you don't let people compliment you ever. I love that you make fun of me all the time (but love me unconditionally). I love your passion, not only for our sorority, but for everyone and everything in your life. I am so blessed to be able to call you my Little.

You are going to be an amazing Big, and I can't wait to see who my G-Little will be. Thank you, Little of mine, for being the best Little a Big could ask for. Thank you for making my job so easy and so enjoyable. Thank you for making me feel loved. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me and for being one of my biggest cheerleaders. You have made such an unforgettable impact on my life. Thank you for being you.

I'm so blessed that fate brought you into my life; I love you beyond words.

Biggie

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
