I recently wrote a paper for my psychology of women class about the queen of all queens, Lorelai Gilmore. Now if you are anything like me you love the incredible series that is Gilmore Girls and were greatly disappointed by the four episode reboot. That being said, writing this paper inspired me to procrastinate by rewatching a couple of episodes. When rewatching early episodes I was once again reminded of why Dean was the worst boyfriend and here is why.
1. He was low key very sexist
In addition to the whole fiasco that was the Donna Reed situation, he was never able to really appreciate Rory as her own person. It seemed like he wanted the role of girlfriend to be her entire identity.
2. He broke up with her because she wouldn't say I love you
I get it he built her a car and that was super great, but she didn't want to say I love you if she didn't mean it. That was no reason to break up with her.
3. He broke up with her (again) in front of everyone
Well said Jess, well said. I have no problem with Dean dumping Rory but he did it in such a public, humiliating way.
4. He cheated on his wife
Now, this wasn't when he was dating Rory and she is definitely at fault as well, however, this further highlights what a terrible partner he is.
5. His confusion over Rory's reading
Now, I don't believe that Dean was a bad person. Rory certainly had faults of her own and made so many mistakes in their relationship. Ultimately they just were not right for each other which is great because it made room for Jess.
