At the beginning of the week, Ben Carson was closely trailing behind Donald Trump in the polls for GOP Candidate. Following an interview Wednesday, Ben Carson lost support but did not lose his standing. He responded with many controversial answers to simple questions many presidential candidates went through. Questions included topics on abortion, homosexuality, health care, gun violence, and Muslims. He seems to keep trying to cover his statements by arranging new interviews to allow him to explain what he meant by his controversial statements. People like Dr. Ben Carson because he is plainspoken and very religious; which most Republicans can relate to. His strong opposition toward abortion also helps him gain support with conservatives.
His remarks most likely did not change many of his supporters’ position on him because they also have conservative views and might even agree with what he said, even if he has tried to reiterate his points in a more posh way.
Most of his opposition is from Democrats. This makes sense because his views are so conservative that liberals cannot relate to what he is saying. He does not believe this country should be ran by a Muslim which is a fair opinion coming from a Republican. You would never hear a Democrat dip their toes into those dark waters because of their liberal views.
Democrats will find anything to pick at an opponent, especially a Republican opponent. He also referred to President Obama as Adolf Hitler-like. He purposed that a new face needed to be in office or else America would end up like Nazi-Germany… debatable from many respectable aspects… but I personally do not think that is quite possible, and it is a rather disgusting remark. (Ben Carson later insisted that he was not presuming President Obama to be like Hilter, but he would not say whom he meant).
Ben Carson also referred to Obamacare as the worst thing since slavery, also debatable from both sides. Again, both sides nitpick each other endlessly.
His comments seem a little uneducated at times, “you look at some of these caves and things out there and one drone strike, boom, and they’re gone” or when he said he would be a real black president, and President Obama is not one.
Dr. Ben Carson is still in second for the GOP candidacy; which is rather baffling that no one, let me say this again, NO ONE has surpassed him or Donald Trump. Ben Carson does not have any previous political experience, but some Republicans view him as a breath of fresh air.
