"Aquaman" Deserves A Fair Chance To Fail At The Box Office

DC's weakest link may have become their heaviest hitter.

Most of us probably saw the tangled ball of Christmas lights that was "Justice League." One of the few bright spots, although not the star at the top of the tree, had to have been Jason Momoa and what he did with Aquaman. If I ever had to pick 3 characters that I would have been most skeptical of having an awesome movie, Aquaman would be one of them. I'd still give him a chance, but my skepticism meter would have been off the chart the whole time. This past week, one of my coworkers recommended that I sit down and watch the trailer for this movie. I finally did and I need to be honest, this looks like it's going to be one heck of a submerged treasure and not just another shipwreck.

We all know that Aquaman has been a little bit of a laughing stock when it comes to heroes, and his use in the JLA. Even the mountain of a man who portrayed him on screen knew this before he picked up the trident. But if there's one person you don't want to be laughing at, it's Jason Momoa, and this may be why Zack Snyder made such a daring suggestion during Momoa's initial Justice League audition. Aquaman may not have been the hero we wanted, but Momoa was definitely the Aquaman we needed. He was tough, cool, a little bit intimidating, and let's be real, left us wanting to see just a little bit more of Arthur Curry throwing people against walls and knocking down the baddies.

Up until now, it's been Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman carrying most of the DCU, but Jason Momoa's Aquaman looks like he might be able to shoulder some of that load. Would you ever consider grabbing a sword, and then proceed to snap it in half? I wouldn't, but Aquaman would. Or was that just Momoa improvising? Let's be real, this movie looks awesome. It's definitely an up-shift from the usually overly dark DCU, but being underwater, won't be too light for its own good.

With a cast including Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as the mysterious but scene-stealing, building blasting Black Manta), you know there's potential. If you've kept up with its production, you'd give the movie a chance just for what the actors are having to go through to nail the underwater effects. They go through 16 hour days, dangling from wires, being hosed down while holding a plank. Amber Heard, who will be reprising Mera, stated "It's an excellent core workout."

I can't say for certain just how good this movie will be, but like water during the high tide, my hopes are up. DC may have something here. Nowadays, most of your Sci-Fi movies take place in space (although director James Wan considers Aquaman to be a fantasy movie --let's keep that on the low), it's interesting to see a movie like this taking place in a new environment, albeit a wet one.

So where will I be this Christmas?

First, I'll be doing dinner with family. After that, I'll be grabbing a towel and ripping open the wrapping paper that are opening trailers before enjoying the Christmas present that will be "Aquaman" in 4D. Hope to see you there!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
