For those of you who might wonder what exactly it is we college students do all day, I thought I would give you all a little peek into my Monday/Tuesday schedule.
Monday.
8 a.m. - Alarm goes off.
8:15 a.m. - I actually get up and get ready for the day.
9:15 to 11:35 a.m. - Back to back English classes
11:36(ish) a.m. - Run across campus to the gym to change for dance class which starts at 11:45 a.m.
12:50 p.m.- Change back into normal clothes and go have a late lunch.
1:30 to 3 p.m. - Free time usually spent doing homework.
3 to 4:50 p.m. - English writing workshop class.
5 p.m. - Early dinner because I'm usually very hungry and tired by this point.
After dinner, my schedule includes homework, group project meetings, other applications/ paperwork that needs to get done that I have been putting off, maybe some social get together, some episodes on Netflix and finally sleeping around midnight.
Tuesday.
9 a.m. - Alarm goes off.
9:15 a.m. - I actually get up and get ready for the day.
10 to 11 a.m. - Cadre. (Cadres are Samford Student Ministry-sponsored small groups or bible studies.)
11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. - English class. (Yes, I am very aware I am taking a lot of English classes; it is my last semester as an undergraduate.)
12:51(ish) p.m. - Run to the school caf to grab a quick lunch before work.
1:30 to 5:30 p.m. - Internship hours, sometimes extended. (Yay for money and professional experience!)
5:35(ish) p.m. - Usually dinner. (I am also aware I eat extremely early, but hey, can you blame me?)
After dinner, my schedule includes homework, chapter at 8 p.m., group project meetings, other applications/paperwork that needs to get done that I have been putting off, some episodes on Netflix and finally sleeping around midnight.
I'm writing this article for two reasons. One, I really love schedules. However, I also want to demolish the stereotype of lazy college students. Yes, some college students are lazy, but not all of us are.
I like my morning classes because they get me up and start my day. I am a full-time student, taking 17 hours this semester (four English courses and one "Phys. Ed."). I work as a part-time intern on top of that. At the end of one day, I do more school work for the next day, which takes roughly two to four hours every night, if done right. I also have clubs, meetings and events I attend and contribute to, and I'm also planning for my future: building up my resume and professional skills, learning how to manage finances, applying for graduate schools and scholarships...you get the idea. Not all of us are here to party.
So, please don't stereotype me as just another lazy college student wasting time and money. A lot of us are actually working before we enter the professional world and are contributing members of society. Give us college students a chance, and step into our world once in a while. We might just surprise you.
